Isn't "Representative Republic" a redundancy? A republic has elected representatives according to Websters, shouldn't it be "Constitutional Republic" or something like that?

This is a legitimate question, not an attempt to argue.

LOL!!!

Main Entry: de·moc·ra·cy
1 a : government by the people; especially : [red]rule of the majority[/red] b :  a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections

Main Entry: re·pub·lic
1 a (1) : a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president (2) : a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government b (1) :  a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and [red]governing according to law[/red]

Given the fact that GW lost the popular vote and had to resort to enforcing the RULE OF LAW to stop Gore from stealing the election, you'd think Bush would be the LAST person touting this nation as being a "democracy"!!!

[rolleyes]

"Democracy". I hate that fucking word. [;D]

YES! Some people here want to live back in the days when women couldn't vote, negroes were a dime a dozen (literally), 99% of the people were Christian and America was a fairly isolated Constitutional Republic.

Imbroglio,

That's a very insightful Photoshopping job.  But I fear that the point is lost on some of the respondents (see no evil, etc.).  By the time they realize you're right, it'll be too late.

99% of people were Christian, God was in the schools, and mass shootings didn't happen.

Actually I was referring to the "brief shining moment" when America was as close to perfection as humanly possible. Sometime between 1791 and 1913.

[USA]

BTW... Kennedy was actually fairly conservative - for a Democrat.

Ardent anti-communist, favored low taxes, strong on the RKBA, didn't care much for the "civil-rights" shysters of the time nor the growing socialist hippie movement. But he did get us entangled in Viet Nam so I guess you have a more than valid distaste for him.
