I would suggest you get something from both the baby and from you. Even just a cute card "from baby to mom" will do wonders. From you, I would suggest a card, flowers and some type of mom-themed jewelry. Nothing too expensive, but getting a mother's ring with the baby's birthstone in it would be much-appreciated by her. (you can likely get this for $150 or so if you're on a budget) Or, some kind of bracelet or necklace with a mom charm. If she wears a Pandora or other charm bracelet, get a new mom charm.
I am speaking from experience, by the way...

Ring with hers, yours, and babies birthstone. Simple craft like the babies hand and foot impressions in a plaster cast about 8x10 picture frame size. Hobby lobby sells 999 silver and copper impregnated clay, you shape whatever trinkets then cook the clay in the oven and the silver dust melts together forming a piece of jewelry. Do this using the babies handprint or thumbprint depending on how big you want it. Homemade mothers day card with babies handprint in paint. |

Here’s what you do get a block of sculpey clay and spared it out on wax paper on a cookie sheet (use a rolling pin or something) Use a Tupperware like bowl put it upside down on the clay and use it like cookie cutter form a large round flat clay disk Now when baby is asleep press hand and foot prints into clay Use a small round pen button end and use it to press dots into the clay spelling happy 1st mother’s day and date Then bake it off in the oven follow instruction on sculpey clay box when cool coat with clear coat spray paint http://www.amazon.com/Polyform-Sculpey-Original-Polymer-1-75-Pound/dp/B0016N6CMU |

Congrats bud! I've been wondering the same thing since We just had our first baby. He too is 7 months old. I would add what others have added and also say to just ask her. There are practical things. She wants a new front facing baby carrier. Stuff like that. Enjoy!

Get her a charm bracelet from the kiddo. Put one charm on it and then you have an easy gift for the kid to keep adding to each year. I'd suggest Chamillia or Pandora. Then get a card from the kiddo, dip kiddos hand in some finger paint and sign the card with a hand print. If nothing else it'll look like you put some real effort and thought into it.
