Looks like it's there to stop skateboarders from grinding across it and destroying the bench...

I thought that was standard most everywhere now.  Benches I've seen that aren't old all have dividers or contoured seats that make lying down on them uncomfortable or impossible.

I see no problem with this. Benches are for sitting, not sleeping.

Well, duh.  The benches here are like that too, because otherwise no one can ever sit on them.

I'm sure the guy bitching about it will invite them into his home, right?

Since it's such a terrible injustice having those dividers on the benches, right?

Right.

“I should be able to sit in the middle of that bench and not have that bar there,” Griffin said. “They look like handles in the middle of the bench but were clearly not there to be held on to but were to divide the bench into two sections.”

Griffin fails at math.

Well, there are some out in the open that are old-style benches, but all the covered bus stops, for instance, have anti-homeless benches, else every covered bus stop would just become someone's home.

Beat me to it. Some people will get upset over anything. Meanwhile San Fran literally has "homeless poop maps" to keep people updated on where people have shat recently. So OKC has it good.

You could motorize it. Tell them it's a free carnival ride. It could be on a loop. at the end of the ride it pushes up into the previous cart like designed. You'd have a stop to let them out (just on the outskirts of town) just before that. Or else.

All benches should be designed like that. Otherwise, a 2-person bench almost inevitably becomes a one person bench, unless it's 2 people who know each other.

Preventing sleeping, man-spreading, skateboard grinding, etc. is an added bonus.

My understanding is that it is a website where users can log on and actively update scat locales. Sort of like geocaching.

I wonder how many homeless people these twats shelter in their residences. Probably zero would be my guess. As long as they are somebody else's problem they have a right to loiter where they please according to the social justice crowd.

I remember the hissy fit they had a few years ago when some building added retractable spikes to keep bums from sleeping and shitting on their steps at night. These people have no concept of what is and is not tolerable in civilized society. Most of the bums you see on the street are there by choice because shelters have curfews and drug use policies that don't allow them to stay out all night drinking Thunderbird and smoking crack.

Agree.

This is not a new thing. Virtually every bench I've seen installed in any public space in the last 25 years is designed like that to separate into multiple seats.  Otherwise some guy sits square in the middle of a two person bench. Preventing sleeping on it is the bonus.  And everything has the anti-skateboarding bumps / knobs / etc. installed.

Reminds me of that idiot here that made it his personal crusade to take down all the " Fire dept parking only" signs from in front of all the fire stations in town.

Is it a public park or a homeless shelter?

Why not just put a bunch of hammocks in the park if you want to provide places for the homeless to sleep?

Until the mission statement for the OKC parks dept. includes a clear obligation to provide off-ground sleeping facilities for all who seek it, I see no issue with doing what they can to keep the homeless under bridges and out of parks.
