im wanting nickel boron bolt carrier groups for my rifles, along with some spare nib bolts.... how does arfcom feel about these ? gtg or not?

Buy cheap, stack deep! Quality doesn't matter when it just sits in a safe. (never owned one--no useful input)

Carriers are fine but I don't trust bolts.
Say what you will about Robert Silvers of AAC but he made a very good argument to stick with standard phosphate bolts. Here is what he wrote about it on the 300BLK forum... I thought that the risk of hydrogen embrittlement was greater than any possible benefit.
I didn't want any failures in military testing. Yes, the cost would also have been crazy if done right. Like $50 more for AAC and more at retail. And no, I don't believe there is a single company who does it right. View Quote ETA: Mods if the link violates policy please remove it and accept my apologies. I just thought he was right in this matter and wanted to provide a direct link to his posts on the subject. |

I've seen this argument before, but any company worth its salt is able to negate embrittlement. Take Lantacs e-bcg....no issues. |

the nib one sucks onto carbon like no other and is a pain to clean, almost as bad as phosphate.
Hard chrome or NP3 is far superior to NIB. Unless you want to pony up for either of those, just get the aim melonite one (I have an AIM melonite and NIB bcg). |

I have one it seems good. I paid more for a phosphate one (aero).
|
|
I have 2 sitting in a parts bin. GD said the coating comes off eventually, so I'm going to sit on them.

Picked one up to try out thanks to you OP. We'll see how it does, at that price it's hard to argue with.

They stain but I found both of mine are 100% reliable. View Quote I have 4. I pulled them out of my guns. They stain horribly (no big deal), and the ejection seems really erratic with all of them. Spent cases barely dribble out the ejection port...one of my guns had 1-2 FTEs per mag with them. Since swapping to Noveske and Aero BCGs function has been 100% and ejection pattern much better. |
|
Not a fan of the NIB ones, and yes I do have one. Stained horribly after the first outing and a pain to clean. Saved money and have purchased the phosphate or nitride ones since then.

BIL bought one and it's sometimes failing to go into battery without a tap on the forward assist, about 60 rounds fired; we haven't had a chance to dick with it though, could be the PSA upper or something, we'll look for funny wear and swap bolts and uppers around.

I had an issue with one I got a while back. Within the first 100 rounds or so, the extractor stopped extracting and I started getting FTE with the next round gumming up the works. I got the BCM heavy duty extractor spring and o ring and put it in and it was fine after that. A sample of one, so YMMV.

View Quote id rather have a fail zero bolt... but your talking 2x the price. im trying to find a happy middle ground, something thats easier to clean, and slicker, and functions a little better..i can see myself picking up some nitrided ones as well..... im building a big tackle box full of spare ar parts, and a 1/2 dozen bcg's, and another 1/2 dozen bolts, along with full rebuild kits etc, is mandatory.. i discovered i didnt have ANY spare extractor springs, or o rings in my spare parts kit recently.... my buddy needed one and i was SURE i had one, as i have bought several of the big spare parts kits thru bushmaster a few years ago...... nope... not a single damn o ring.. i hit brownells and bought 6 sets of the spikes rebuild kits, spring, o ring, and rubber insert........i still need some more stuff... just for the kit, like LPK's, gas tubes, anything and everything...etc.... not just to build new guns with either... but to keep for repairing guns. im eventually wanting to buy a few extra barrels as well. i REALLY love the rock river, ultra light chrome lined midlength barrels. i have one and its awesome. its hard to spend the money on one though when i can buy a complete upper thru psa though. |

Well, blah.
I wish I had found this thread before I hit "complete order". I've been waiting on a v2, but they aren't in stock and have no ETA per Christina at AIM. The NIB was available, so I snagged one. Hoping that wasn't a mistake. ETA: This and the Spikes were the only two 5.56 BCGs available on AIM. So, I bought the cheaper of the two. |

iv got 3 so far... like them a lot. planning to buy about 4 more.

Hhmmm. I got one a couple weeks ago.. Now I'm thinking maybe I should leave it in my parts stash to keep for emergency or to sell.

I ordered one about a year ago, picture shows a blind marked one, when I received mine, it had the Ares armor logo on it.
|
|
Built a rifle with a stainless barreled upper and bought one for it two weeks ago.
Shot 100 rounds through it. It functioned fine, but I can already see that it will get dirty fast. As long as it keeps working 100% I will be happy. |
|
My AIM NiB peeled the coating off anywhere there was metal-to-metal contact.
Peeling started in the first few hundred rounds. A polite set of emails with pictures got me a new one. They did say there was only a 30 day guarantee on them. Mine was 16 months old when I pulled the plug on it. |
