Yes I have a Marlin .450 guide gun and wouldn't sell it for less than that.
I have no desire for own a 45-70, but that's not an easy gun to find and would be very tempted just to play with it for a little bit
Excellent condition? Yes.
They seem to go for $700-800 around here. |
I paid 650 for mine about 9 years ago Love that rifle. 24" xlr stainless love it. DO IT NOW.
Absolutely yes!
I have seen the stainless/laminated guide gun version sell for over 1k & the value will only go up in the future. |
Thanks for the feedback folks. I am waiting to hear back on a Westernfield .30-30, but will jump this if that falls through.

I've got a JM guide gun that has less than 40 rounds through it. I paid around 400 to 450? new if I remember correctly. Interesting to see the appreciation in value.

I paid over $700 for mine and now I want the stainless one to go with it. One of my favorite guns!

I can tell you that 40 grains of imr 4198 powder under a 340 grn hard cast bullet is a damn fine round, It will drop pretty much anything that walks crawls or slithers.

Beaters are now $500-550 here. Just a few years ago $425-475 or so for excellent. Makes me wish I'd bought the like new .450 guide and ammo for $425 from a lgs and the $360 39A....sigh...

I bought a brand new stainless Marlin 45/70 six or seven years ago. Outside of the maybe 20 rounds I've shot through it, she has lived in the safe the entire time.
Just a few months back a guy wanted to buy it but never did pony up the cash. I figure I will hold onto it and maybe sell it later on down the road. |

View Quote I paid around that for a one in great condition with a vx-ii and a few goodiesa few years ago. I too am surprised the prices have gone up as much as they have. |

Which model? There's tons of options...
I just bought a mint condition 1895G last weekend for $625.00 total. Manufactured 1999. |
That seems to be a very reasonable price for a JM stamped guide gun. If you want one I'd grab it.
I sold a Marlin 444 for $500 with a crappy scope 10yrs ago and a Marlin carbine in 357 last year for $700 so it's a really odd market.
My shortened large ring custom 44carbine would have to bring me $1,100 to break even. I recently sold all the 30-30 ammo I had due to an obvious Marlin weakness... |
I can tell you this, op. If your lgs has a mint used one for $469, and you say" let me wait till next weekend" , you will kick yourself for a very long time.
I have no need for a lot of things I have so yes I'd have no problem paying that price for one.
I would.
When I was in Alaska last year .45-70 Marlins seemed to be very popular. |

I picked her up today. Can't wait to get it home and clean it up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/Medicfrost/Etc/IMG_20160222_091632583.jpg View Quote Nicely done!1 You might look into a recoil pad for it though. |

I may end up hanging it on a wall. I just dated the serial number, and it's a prewar 1941. Nevermind, looks like Marlin decided to use older serial number codes on 1895s in the 70s. |

You have the gift of foresight.
When Moose overrun Florida who will be prepared? OP, that's who. |

Nice gun. I've got a cb version with the octogon barrel. They ate a blast to shoot.

I have a straight grip like yours and it's for my outdoor walks. We've one big kitty as well as some big black bears out here. Thankfully the bears are shy (and hope they stay that way) and I've only seen kitty once. BTW, thee's a bald eage alround here and a pair of red too. I love watching the latter as they fly quite close by.

Awesome! Mine is one of my favorites. I think you should shoot it.
