So I have an IPod nano touch, it's a pretty good little machine, 16gig.

But I had Walkmans (walkmen?) in the 80's that would decimate this thing, from a volume standpoint. It just isn't loud enough for guys who are already half deaf like me.

So Apple, if I have to sign a waiver to get something that I could possibly harm myself with, I understand. People being so litigious these days.

IIRC the company reduced the max volume the device could produce. .... because they were concerned they would be sued by kids down the road, because they kept the volume pegged and wrecked their hearing over years of use.. etc.  im like you, hearing damage. i NEED to be able to turn it up.. just to hear it.

That insane Walkman volume you enjoyed as a kid in the 80's is probably at least partially responsible for your present day hearing impairment.

Anyway, your best bet is to find a pair of headphones with a lower impedance. They'll be louder.

Another thing that will help (assuming you're using earbuds at present), is to replace them with in-ear monitors. They provide more acoustic isolation than your leaky earbuds do - making them easier to hear at lower volume. They fit more like earplugs.

Try and find a pair rated around 16 ohms, if you can (definitely no higher than 32). That oughta do 'er. If that's not good enough for you, you'll need a headphone amplifier and at that point...you're not really portable anymore and it becomes a bit counterproductive.

Awesome, yeah I'm just using the earbuds it came with.

It's annoying.  Every time I try to turn the volume up past 3/4 I have to answer "Yes" to a warning of possible hearing loss.

Every damn time.

There needs to be a checkbox that says "Yes, I know, stop frigging annoying me about it, you're not my Mother".

ETA:  That's Samsung

I think I did that already, when it was new. I'm not sure if the nano settings are the same as fancier iPods.

It is because of dumbasses that like to file lawsuits for every little thing.
We have arfcom members that were part of a lawsuit against RedBull.    The reason?    Because it did not actualy give them wings.

If I remember right, old ipods would go so loud it would damage your ears.  Then people tried to sue Apple about it, because they were too stupid to know that loud music can damage your ears.  I think the settlement was the Apple made their stuff not go so loud that it will damage the users hearing.  They were basically forced to protect people from their own stupidity.

you can always get battery-powered headphones and crank it up louder i guess.

but then you couldn't sue them for the damages either.  so... you both win?

Have a federal judge write them an order to develop software that will allow you to increase the volume to super double dangerous levels.
