Saw an article for that yesterday, I'm very excited! Unfortunately we have to wait until early 2017 at the least...

That is so awesome!!
I read all things WWII 8th AF and European Air War. My only reservations is that they try to cram every anecdote into a handful of missions/episodes, like Memphis Belle. |

The museum in Savannah is pretty awesome, especially getting to listen to some of the old vets.

View Quote My favorite book as a kid, I still have it and highly recommend it . I have always had a fascination with the 8th since I was a kid. Yea, I'll be watching... They better not fuck it up |

Cant wait. Loved band of brothers hated the pacific. Im glad that they are going to focus on one unit.

To Hollywood....making shows about killing National Socialists is good.....killing International Socialists seems to be no bueno.

I'll be tuning in. Maybe one day, they'll decide to do one on the submarine war in the Pacific.

Maybe follow the crew of a DD that served in both theatres or something (several did) This would be the perfect ship to follow for a naval version. Even was one of three ships chosen to escort the Missouri into Tokyo Bay, by order of Admiral William Halsey, "because of their valorous fight up the long road from the South Pacific to the very end." |

I plan on watching this with my son. He is named after his great-grandfather that completed 34 missions over Europe in B-24s.

Hoping for a good series. Yes, a Navy show (ships and subs) would be cool. Also like to see one on the Big Red 1.

I'm not sure of his total missions, but he survived the war as a belly gunner in B-24's only to die a couple years before I was born |

Can't wait. You know who's an even bigger fan of WWII movies than we are? The British. They are absolute fanatics when it comes to BoB.

Definitely looking forward to this, my grandpa was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 in the Eighth and did 28 missions over such popular attractions as Schweinfurt, Augsburg and Kiel, got himself a Distinguished Flying Cross, 3 Air Medals and a few Luftwaffe fighters in the bargain. He died of polio not long before the vaccine came out when my mom was a baby so I never knew him, but I have to assume the man clanked when he walked.
I'd also love to see an HBO miniseries about the Big Red One as well, the movie was good but it's almost 30 years old now and the subject matter could definitely carry a miniseries. One of my great-uncles was in the 1st Infantry, he just passed last year and the stories he told were something else as he fought from Torch until VE Day, the stories he wouldn't tell probably had a lot to do with how at the end of the war he was a 20 year old First Sergeant with snow white hair. WWII PTO sub or surface ship miniseries? That would be awesome as well. Bring them all on. |

My great uncle was a gunner on the B-17or 29 in WW2 had some awesome stuff at his house in terms of unit memorabilia (mighty 8th). Quoted: I'd really like to see a series based on the Mighty Mo', View Quote Neither of my grandpas or the plethora of great-uncles I had that served in WWII were on a battleship, the only one of them in the Navy was my grandma's brother in law on the Nashville, he was on her when it got hit by the kamikaze, said he didn't much care for it. He's also the only one of them still alive and honestly even though he's in his late 80s (hell he could be over 90 by now, trying to get his actual age out of him is harder than getting it out of a Hollywood actress) he is more spry than some guys I know in their 40s (including me) so I guess surviving a hit by a suicidal Japanese pilot scores you all sorts of good points for the rest of your days. |

That would be cool! My grandpa was a navigator on Aprils Fool, 384th BG, 545th stationed out of Grafton Underwood England. They were shot down in July 1943 making a bomb run on the submarine pens. He was a POW until 1945. Real cool history for sure. He was awarded with a golden caterpillar with the ruby eye for surviving the jump as was the rest of the crew. He spent the rest of the war in Stalag Luft 7a camp. R.O. Henley is his name and I miss him dearly.

Please let them use real warbirds and not a bunch of phony looking CGI.......

I'm down for this... id like to see a Korean War series and a Vietnam series. Although I'm really afraid of how much they'd fuck up anything to do with Vietnam. ..

Other than being a U-Boat sailor I can't imagine the fear that the B17 crews faced early in the war.
12 B17's go out 8 to 10 come back each mission. Don't take long for even a dummy to figure out making 25 missions is a poor bet. |

Jesus, really? 2017? We've already been waiting a few YEARS! Can't wait to see it. The grandfather of my buddies wife is a WW2 bomber pilot and we have plans to have him at the house as the guest of honor for the premiere of this series. He's already 90 and I pray he makes it to see the show and then some...

Last weekend CSPAN showed a lecture given by Donald Miller. He is the author of the book the series is based on "Masters Of The Air." After watching the lecture I downloaded the book and started reading it. Excellent book so far, well written and a lot of new information that I didn't know.
Miller mentioned the series in his lecture and from the way he talked the producers were working hard to make the series authentic. |
