There are a lot of scary stupid people in that part of the world, many of whom take historic slights seriously to this day. It's a lot like the Middle East in ways.

and... they have access to pretty much any weapon they want.. belt fed, morters, mines, automatic weapons, grenades...
bosnians would put landmines in their houses when they bugged out.. to help keep shit from being stolen..... they would put them in their orchards and woods as well to protect the fruit, and firewood from being stolen.
