Well, I've tried and tried to embed-fail!
So, here's a link to show where our fish have been going this winter- Pond is about 3 ft deep right there. Have netted it with wire mesh for now- Owl is hanging around (Spotted several times during the day). Good way to lose a cat too.....

Bump for additional vid of Hawk.
He got all our old (6-7 year) coy. 39 cent feeder goldfish for us now.

It's an old Wild Game Innovations from 2011. 10 MP, does video or pics, flash and infra-red, day/night or 24 hr selectable. Lousy mounting options until I mounted an old tripod. Outstanding battery life. Doesn't have a model # on it, and can't find the paperwork. Would a motion activated light of some sort be effective ? Some really bright LEDs popping on right in it's eyes might keep it away.

Have no idea- the first night I put up the wire mesh (batteries were shot on the cam), next morning I went out and the mesh had been smashed and was underwater. Nothing since then, even on the cam (except a few mice). But I bet the minute I take the mesh off- Bam! He's a BIG sucker! |

I keep an aquaponics system in my backyard. The fish tank on the left is 550 gallons. Have you ever thought about keeping catfish? They would love the warm water in your pond.  The only issue is the catfish would eat any fish that could fit in their mouth. Depending on the species, they tend to stay near the bottom so maybe less likely to be preyed upon.

A friend of mine was losing his fish to raccoons. He put a wire around the pond about 6" high and then hooked it to a fence charger. The first couple of nights there was a lot of shrieking raccoons. They have learned to look for dinner elsewhere.
On a serious note: a client had a pond with expensive Coy fish. Herons were eating them. Herons are protected so he couldn't harm them. He got a sprinkler with a motion sensor on it. When the birds landed and got close to the pond, the sprinkler would blast them. Problem solved, problem staying solved. |

I'm sure you have no problem growing okra, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, etc. Hot and dry. We have a ton of water. In fact, I have a trout stream in my backyard forming the border between me and my neighbor. But I would love more sun for my garden.
