Two Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers were seriously wounded Saturday after they were shot at a casino in the central Alberta city of St. Albert. Police were searching for an armed suspect.

UPDATE – 12:10 pm

Edmonton, AB – The suspect who shot two RCMP officers earlier this morning in a St. Albert casino has been located. The police are not in a position to release his identity at this time. That information will be forthcoming as the investigation continues. There is no longer any public safety threat related to this incident.

Although the suspect has been located, police are asking the public to avoid the area southeast of the Sturgeon Valley Golf Course until further notice. The police investigation is still underway at the casino where the shootings took and police ask the public to stay away from that location as well.

The RCMP thanks the public for the messages and support we have received on the part of the wounded officers and their families.

UPDATE - 4:15 pm

Suspect in shooting of two Alberta RCMP officers found dead.

The hunt for a man suspected of gunning down two Mounties at a casino just outside of Edmonton is over after investigators found his body in a rural home not far from where
the shooting happened. He said the two wounded officers remain in hospital.

Const. David Matthew Wynn, 42, is in grave condition, while Const. Derek Walter Bond, 49, is in serious but stable condition.

Bond is an auxiliary officer, meaning he would not have been carrying a gun. He has been volunteering with the force since 2008.

Wynn joined the RCMP in 2009.

Degrand said Wynn’s condition is dire.

“Definitely we are very concerned for his survival,” he said.

Investigators have tentatively identified the suspect, but are waiting to confirm that information before releasing it.
