The clones made up the "Grand Army of the Republic", but when it morphed i to the Empire, the clone "GAR" became the imperial stormtroopers. However, new non-clone human recruits also became stormtroopers, but they were considered "inferior", which probably explains the piss-poor shooting. |

Two reasons:
1. Vader sensed that Luke Skywalker was his son and strong in the force, and he wanted to turn his son to the dark side. 2. They put a tracking device on the Millenium Falcon so they could track it back to the Rebels. Vader couldn't achieve any of those objectives, if the Stormtroopers killed Skywalker and his associates. They were ordered not to kill them, but rather drive them back to the Millenium Falcon so they could escape. |

In the last few Karen Travis books, it is not exactly said but some clone troopers show up towards the end of the series and long after order 66 and Jacen Solo's adventure that are accelerated vat grown, and flash-trained instead of trained from birth by a cadre of Mandolorian mercs. Obviously they lack the experience and knowledge the original 1 Million clone troopers had. In that part of the book, the main clone troopers characters make comments to that affect, even asking a "new" clone where and who he trained under. Which was met with silence, as the new clones weren't trained and have no idea what they are talking about. That all said though.. the new JJ Abrams film is supposed to be a completely new reboot of sorts and all that EU stuff from the last 30 years is apparently no longer considered "Cannon" by Lucasarts. Which to be honest kinda ticks me off a tad, as this means no Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Based on that aging, it would be safe to assume that the vast majority of clone troopers had died of old age by A New Hope. |
