Honda has built its 300 millionth motorcycle, crossing a milestone that few automakers have reached.

The historic bike produced at its Kumamoto Factory in Japan was a top-of-the-line Gold Wing, which has a 1.8-liter engine and sells for over $24,000 -- a far cry from the humble 98cc Dream Type-D that kicked off production in 1949.

I wish Honda would have done something special for their 300 millionth motorcycle, GoldWings are nice enough but they're so damn boring and common, I'd have loved to see something like a special built one-off of the CBX, nothing showed off their engineering ability like that big beautiful in-line 6 cylinder beastie...

Own an s2000 built to celebrate 50 years of Honda.  Closest thing to driving a 4 wheeler that acts like a 2 wheeler that is livable as a daily.

I've found that most people who call modern day Goldwings "boring" have never owned one.

They should have built an updated oval piston bike.

They should have built a street bike based on the RC211V bike (V5)

I didn't realize that the Gold Wing was available as cheap as 24k, last time I saw one at a dealer it was the tricked out model with airbags and everything, and it was a hell of a lot more than that!

I'd love to pick up a cheap used GW, maybe a late 80's/early 90's model. Would be great for long road trips. But for the most part, when it comes to bikes, the lighter the better - and the GW is way up there on weight, only beat by some of the monster size cruisers.

Sadly, I did... it was a 2010 GL1800 in hot rod yellow, and it was boring and too insulating from the experience, I might as well take the car.  I traded it off for a Harley Night Train and got the bugs back in my teeth again...

BMW used to make a bike like the Gold Wing. It was an LT model. It was affectionately called the Light Truck!

When I bought my bike in 2006 the fully loaded, brand new Gold Wings were just under 24k on the showroom floor.

Got one when I was 15 just like this one....1965 Super 90

Since then I've had Hondas XR650L, 1200 Sabre, 1200 Gold Wing Interstate (stripped down) I still own 2 Honda generators (one water cooled:)
Always wanted a Honda Valkyrie in all their various permutations just never pulled the trigger on one.....do like the new CB1100 that
would be the bike I'd get were I going to ever buy another bike.

My first 'proper' motorcycle was a Honda S90, I think it was a 1968.  My dad got it for me as payment for a hard winter of working the cattle, I learned how to ride on that bike, I must have crashed it a dozen times being stupid and of course that taught me how to repair them... still at it too, just not the crashin' part <knock on wood>

When I was 15, my Dad bought me a 1979 Honda 250 Enduro.  I rode more miles, both on road and off on that bike than on any I've owned since.  Hondas have always had a spot in my heart, because I experienced my first taste of freedom on one.

Hahaha....I had one of those long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away. Not quite as pretty but had the megaphone pipe.

Got a '76 XL350 a few years later.

And then I discovered 2 stroke Yamahas.
