Apparently, it was by Merle Haggard, and its entitled "Walking on the Fightin' Side of Me"

Here's partial lyrics. (Maybe you HAD to be there, but I GOTTA go get this album. Its an oldie)

I hear people talking bad about the way they have to live in this country

harpin on the wars we fight and griping about the way things ought to be
I don't mind them switching sides and standing up for things they believe in

when theyre running down our country man theyre walkin on the fighting side of me

Theyre walking on the fightin side of me
running down a way of life our fightin men have fought and died to keep

if you don't love it leave it
let this song I'm singing be a warning
when your running down our country hoss
your walkin on the fightin side of me

I read about some squirely guy that claims he just don't believe in fightin
I wonder just how long the rest of us can count on being free
they love our milk and honey but they preach about some other way of livin
when theyre runnin down our country man theyre walking on the fighting side of me

Yep.  Heard it many times and still love it.

Honest to goodness that is the first time I've heard this song.

And I been listening to country sine the 80's.

Were I a cussin' man, I'd have given a "H--- yeah" when I heard it today.

..."You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything"...

Guess which side most people in Kalifornistan and PRNJ fall on.

Old Merle, the greatest, (and pretty old songs.)

If I could Fly Away, is his latest album and it is still good music!

I'll have to check out my 3 disc set I have of him and see if that song is on there. It's a damn good song.
