Well it has finally happened to me. My locks not only froze but froze in the lock position. this means that even though i can turn the key (after boiling it in water) the lock wont disengage. I managed to get 3 out of 4 doors opened but the passenger one is frozen in lock. How can i fix this so i dont have to keep putting up with it every morning and night? I left my locks open for the night so i can get in the car tomorrow morning. Heating the inside of the car had no effect on the lock

Instead of using hot water (which will immediately freeze again) see if you can spray some alcohol into it. This should free the mechanism and has a lower freeze point than water. If that doesn't work, I'd go to the local auto parts store or Wal-Mart and pick up a can of that lock de-icer and lubricant.

WD-40 works well and it is cheaper than lock de-icer

break the windows.. < you could simply lower them at night ... but where is the fun in that?> Then practice getting in "Dukes Of Hazzard" style.. oh yeah wear a jacket since the ride to work will most likely suck.

I always liked the old Oxy/Acetaline approach....

Made it so much easier to get in my car without those pesky doors.....

Of course, WD-40 kicks ass, and a bit of CLP keeps th elocks from freezing again [:D]

Yet another use for CLP. Ill go put some on my key in the am or should i squirt the lock hole with it?

Lube the lock hole for sure. CLP may actually work. Just put a rag underneath, so you don't get any on the paint.
Mine is getting hard to turn the key in the Olds again, but it's been about two years since I put some lubricant in it. I don't remember what I used, but afterward, the key almost turned [i]too[/i] easily.

Do you have a friend with a garage? If so, visit them for a couple hours and borrow their garage for a while.

I would do that for a friend...

I liked the suggestion for a garage. [:)]

You may reference the recent thread on the remote starter for your car.

Silicone spray (available at auto supply stores) helps on my GM as per their manual. I coat all rubber weather stripping and hinges and locks with it.

Using oi is the fastest way to RUIN a door lock around here. Dust gets in there and tears everything up. Use a teflon based dri-lube. Or alcohol.
