I got one in the mail today. It will be going to a landfill in a plastic bag this evening.

You know, I love the outdoors, and I'd venture to say that most of the AFCOMmers love the outdoors as well. Those of us who spend time outside learn to be caring and conservative of our envirionment.

I think that the Sierra Club is probably mostly made up of people who live in cities and join out of some sort of guilt over their wasteful lifestyles.

Any SC members here that would care to disagree?

I agree with you 100%. A lot of that movement is about money. Then to top it off, the SC gives money to some real shitbags like the Earth Liberation Front. All these assholes want is for nobody to be able to go into the woods with anything but a hiking stick. No gold panning, shooting, horses, biking, or ATVs. Shitbags, all of them.

They are not loud about it but they are anti-gun, hunting, 4 wheeling......

Quite honestly, most of them are Anti-Human.  Period.

You said something there, Torf. These types feel that Man is ruining the Earth, and should be done away with. Aww, isn't that sweet.

Oh sweet irony, a post from a user named "DzlBenz" referencing the Sierra Club.

Bwahahahahahhahhahahhahahaa....

I find them to be strikingly hypocritic.  They should do away with themselves FIRST!

In my mind, there are two types that are interested in the environment.....

1.  Conservationists - they feel that we all live in the world and have to make the best usage of it and conserve it so that it'll be there for future generations.  Most hunters, farmers, and ranchers fall into this category.

2.  Environmentalists - they feel that anything man does in the environment is bad, and that they only way to clean up the environment is to remove man out of the equation completley.  I feel that those that are completely FOR this propoganda need to do their part in removing themselves out of the equation.....  I have yet to see a farmer, rancher, or hunter that falls into this category.

The Sierra Club is a BUSINESS, first and formost.  REMEMBER that one thing if you must forget everything else.  They earn their keep by keeping things stirred up to keep their faces in the news to keep the contributions coming in.  What they promote has nothing to do what they personally feel like should be done, it's all about maximizing those contributions.

If they truly believed what they preached, they'd be screaming to high heaven about luxury cars, SUV's, air conditioners on homes, incandescent light bulbs, plastic wrap, and anything disposable.  Can you hear their screaming?  I don't either.

As an avid dirt biker, gun enthusiast, and outdoorsman, I consider the SC to be my enemy.

The SC wants to shut down as much land as possible to virtually every outdoor activity.

I've run into Sierra Clubbers in the woods and they (usually women) remind me of butch lesbos on the rag. They are dangerous and pathetic at the same time.

I was a member for many years but allowed it to lapse in 2000.  My ex is very active as a Chapter Outing Leader, which gives me a prime reason to stay away from Sierra Club activities.

Most of the members in the San Diego area are decent, intelligent people who mainly want to get together with others to do certain kinds of outdoor activities, i.e. to meet others with similar interests.  I met several who like myself would admit to being NRA members as well.

My cousin in Texas is an avid SC member.  He has occasionally found his group (in the Houston area) on the same side of some issues as the NRA and hunting groups.

I find myself usually agreeing with the Sierra Club on LOCAL environmental issues - Mainly protection of wetlands and other habitats from irresponsible development.  These issues involve conflicts with land developers (many of whom don't live around here) rather than with hunters or ORV people.

As a hiker and backpacker I sometimes find ORV people to be annoying, so I usually go places where they can't.

I used to belong to the Sierra Club.
If you follow their history you will see that they went from being a true Conservation orginazation to nothing more than a left wing eco-nazi controlled lobbying machine.
They almost fell apart a  few years ago when the membership split between a group that wanted to get back to conservation work, a group that wanted to be more active (blowing shit up, monkey-wrenching) and more mobilized and a group that wanted to become a bigger lobbying organization.
The bigger lobbying group won.

As a hiker and backpacker I sometimes find ORV people to be annoying, so I usually go places where they can't.

California_Kid, why in the fuck would you go hiking or backpacking in areas where it is leagal for people to use the PUBLIC LAND in a legal manner.

People like you just amaze me.

"I didn't know that living next to an airport would mean that I would have to listen to aircraft all day and night long"...

"I didn't know that moving into the country next to ranches/farms to get away from the city
would mean that I would have to smell their smells"...

"You mean that I have to listen to gunfire just because I moved next to a gunrange?"....

True. A group once known for its activities has been ruined by its activism.

I too WAS a Sierra Club member also, for one year because I wanted to find out about local outdoor activities like hiking etc, but it turns out that they are more of political pressure group. They kept on calling me for donations and the last guy said they he was a NRA member also, but this environmental stuff was real important to him, I told him to go fvck himself..., politelly of course. And those suckers also sold my name to the HCI. I got about 3 or 4 solicitation letters from HCI wanting money.

YES!

The mamafletchers did the same thing to me too.  I could tell because my stuff was addressed to "Mr. California Kid".

I had so much fun telling HCI where to go that I neglected to hassle the SC about it.  My letter to HCI had a photocopy of a check for $50 to the NRA/ILA, and said I'd send another check to the NRA whenever I got a solicitation from HCI.  Never heard from them again.

Doesn't quite fit, does it? [rolleyes]

That was stupid thing to send HCI, I would just let them send me more solicitation letters to use up their money. I hope you sent the photocopies of the NRA/ILA checks in the postage-paid  envelopes, right? I thought about sending the postage-paid envelop back with empty shell casings, but someone suggested they may mis-interpet it as terrorist threat.

Look into the Izaak Walton League (http://www.iwla.org/) as a suitable replacement for the SC membership.

ORV's are annoying.  I believe you have the right to do it wherever it is allowed, especially your own property, but I think the only thing KaliKid was trying to point out is his own preferences.

Why do I think ORV's are annoying?  They make a lot of damn noise (while I'm trying to hunt) and they tear up the ground.  I understand that orv's are great for older or disabled hunters, but why on earth does a healthy man want to sit on his ass when he can get some decent exercise?

I think a lot of people are members of organizations whose end goals are far from what these members actually know.  Like how labor unions tell you to vote dem and put money in dems pockets, just so the dems can raise taxes and drive companies out of the U.S., leaving the union workers without jobs.  The Sierra Club may be an enjoyable organization at face value, but the money they put in dems pockets is unacceptable for conservative gun owners.

[rolleyes] Like I said....[bitchwhine]"You mean I have to listen to ORV's when I am trying to hunt on public land that is open to THE PUBLIC for PUBLIC USE including ORV's? That's not fair."[/bitchwhine]
Go hunt on land where ORV use is not authorized. After Herr Clinton shut down all of the National Forest Lands (Roadless Forests) I am sure you can find lots of land where ORV use won't be a problem.
Oh wait, he closed it off to hunters too....

ORV's only tear up the land when there are not areas set aside for them to be used. 99.9% of all legal off road areas are maintained by the users and by fees paid by the users.

I hope you didn't pay for the Sierra Club membership.  But how did you get it?  They don't give away free memberships.

I almost joined many years ago, and am glad I don't wast the money.  Back then it wasn't so political.  Today, it's full of "do good" socialists, and then some of those tree huggers are dooable.

If it has a prepaid return envelope, mail it back empty. The Sierra Club is one of the groups that opposes our county field sports park (the shooting range). They want to shut it down due to lead poisioning.

We've found a closet liberal! It's private property and just because the owner is not doing with it what you want, this doesn't give you the right to dictate through SC. We get this shit from SC members who want to ride their horses on our property out in Gopher Canyon Rd.
