American Family Association is joining others in an effort to pass a Constitutional Amendment protecting the Pledge of Allegiance and our national motto, "In God We Trust." This proposed Constitutional Amendment is sponsored in the House (H.J. Res 108) by Rep. Chip Pickering and in the Senate (S.J. Res 43) by Senator Trent Lott. It will protect our Pledge of Allegiance and national motto, and will prohibit judges from declaring them illegal.

Apparently, what we really need is a Constitutional amendment that protects our Constitutional Amendments...

Why are conservatives fighting to defend school prayer and the religious content of political slogans?  These things are in direct opposition of scripture:

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door,
pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. (Matthew 6:5-6)

While they're at it, they ought to make an amendment that the Constitution means what it says.....

The right to be free from forced oaths was one of the main reasons that the first Euroupeans came to North America.  Let's not go backwards.  Both of these items were nothing more than a political response to "Godless Communism" in the 50s.  If you want to pray and salute the flag, go ahead.  I won't be joining you and no bully is going to make my kid do it either.

Not needed.

NO!!!

Amendements should be carefully reasoned responses to serious issues regarding the preservation of liberty, not feel-good responses to minor issues.  Doing so totally dilutes the seriousness of the process.

All we need here is for the constitution itself to be treated as a relevent document again, and we wouldn't have problems such as the one this misguided proposal seeks to address, a runaway activist judiciary that has totally overstepped it's defined bounds.

What we really need is an Amendment requiring elected officials to have served in the military.  I believe that would have saved us from the previous administration, among other benefits.
