Did anyone else get this from the NRA?  If she is on our side and you know old Zell Miller is on our side it looks like we are off to a good start.  There will have to be some Democraps in the Senate that voice our side of this issue or else it will be very tough and ugly.

While the anti-gun Brady Campaign for the Prevention of Handgun Violence, formerly known as HCI, contributed $1,000 to the Landrieu for Senate campaign, we applaud Senator Landrieu for rejecting the contribution and for donating that money to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Foundation, where it will be used to encourage Louisianians to hunt, fish, and enjoy the "Sportsmen’s Paradise." Senator Landrieu has expressed her commitment to stand with NRA members and other law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen in Louisiana on important Second Amendment issues such as allowing the federal "assault weapons" ban to sunset, preserving gun shows, protecting gun manufacturers from predatory lawsuits, and calling for a study of "ballistic fingerprinting" before millions of dollars in law enforcement resources are squandered on a gun registration scheme.

from her campaign website -

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

--Second Amendment to the United States Constitution
Gun Rights and Responsibilities
Senator Landrieu will continue to fight to make sure gun collectors, hunters, and sport shooters' Second Amendment Rights are protected at all costs. The rights guaranteed under the Constitution, by the Bill of Rights, distinguish the United States from every country in the world.

Senator Landrieu Believes in Responsible Gun Ownership

Senator Landrieu believes that people should have the right to carry guns for protection. Senator Landrieu recently cosponsored a bill which would allow law enforcement officials to keep guns with them when they are off duty or traveling throughout the United States.
Guns can be dangerous weapons that are all too often used by criminals to rob, steal and kill. Senator Landrieu believes that we need to do a better job of enforcing laws that are currently on the books. At the same time, we must continue to do all we can to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. That is why she supports background checks on gun purchases - 95 % of which can be completed in two hours or less.
Senator Landrieu also believes that we should take steps to educate the public about keeping guns safe at home to protect children from accidentally harming each other. Child safety locks are a small expense for gun purchasers that can prevent needless loss of life.
Senator Landrieu is one of six Democrats to cosponsor the Miller Bill which exempts gun manufactures from liability for the criminal use of their products.
Keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and taking steps to keep children from harm are the types of reasonable regulation that are essential to protecting citizens while not unduly restricting the rights of lawful gun owners. Finding the appropriate balance is always difficult, but that is how Senator Landrieu views any legislation affecting gun rights.

It’s not unequivocal, but better than 90% of politicians  (and 98% of Democrats).

Take gun control off the table, and the Democrats stand a chance of winning again — especially in the south. Smart move.

but what are the chances that this is just another ploy to gain votes and once in office she will reverse her 2nd amendment stance?

Democraps are complete idiots.  Especially the "Big City Liberals".  If they would just do the right thing and support the 2nd Amendment, get rid of the AWB and embrace gun owners and freedom they would win everything.  That being said, I would still vote for Republicans cause I am a conservative.

Mary Landrieu for AWB sunset???

Don't hold your breath. That fat bitch, Marge (just retired) Roukema from my district used to spew the same lies from her cake hole, then immediately vote for "sensible" gun control. "Sensible" to her meant every anti-gun measure to come to a vote. Hopefully, Budreaux isn't so stupid as to buy the same line of horseshit from Landrieu.

Naw, That'd make her a republican...
Best indicator is voting record, when there is one..

The demorats are running scared. They are afraid of becoming a non-issue. They know that the "gun issue" has hurt them significantly in the last decade. Many are reading the political winds and realizing that a pro-gun stance can marginalize 4% of the voters (us).

Don't be fooled, the demorats are just hiding their fangs in bunches of wool. There may be some pro gun moderate democrats, but the majority of demorats and the leadership is dedicated to eradicating your gun rights.

Keep the pressure on both republicrats and demorats. Let's get rid of this awful anti-constitutional ban.

Still, I'm glad she won the race. The Republicans don't need so big of a majority in the Senate that they forget the people who tipped the elections in their favor (us).

Don't bank on it too much. The Demos has had gun control as part of their party platform. And there are many anti-guners in the party leadership. Being anti-gun has not become fashionable since the WTC/Pentagon attack.

Just "gun collectors, hunters, and sport shooters"? Sounds like she'd be protecting some of her fellow pols and fat cat supporters, not anybody else.

It would have been nice if she had said instead:

"Senator Landrieu will continue to fight to make sure the people's Second Amendment Rights are protected at all costs."

Then I would trust somebody like her.

Mitt Romney, the Republican who won the governorship in Massachusetts recently, had something else in his webpage about guaranteeing the rights of hunters or some such to own guns. All others need not apply?

Unlike Ms. Landrieu, he explicitly supports the AWB.

The Replicrats have got to do more than let the '94 ban sunset if they want my future support. They must reverse Reagans '86 machinegun ban and Bushes '89 import ban also. You know, now's the time to demand that the Republicans do these things to restore the Second Amemdment, they control the Senate and the House! Let's make them prove for once and for all that Republican Party is pro Second Ammendment! Give them until November 2004 to make it happen, or kick the bastards out!

that won't happen

they are pro vote-maximizing

This is a good thing.  If the republicans gain a corner on the gun-rights issue, they can begin to take gunners for granted.  Many would argue this has already happened.  The more pro-gun democrats the better, in fact, I think a truly pro-gun democrat is potentially much more valuable to gun owners than a similarly pro-gun republican.  Don't let this issue become more polarized along party lines.
