What say the hive? Gargoyles, Oakley, Wiley X, others????

Tired of $13.00 Wal Mart Chicom glasses. If you touch the lenses they scratch.

What about prescription sunglasses, I'm nearsighted but I got the Tropical Winds sunglasses and they ROCK!

Basically everything looks like the Rum Diary when it's sunny and clear outside.

Revo's are amazing. Gf bought me a pair with water lenses and it's easily the best quality lenses I've seen. Oakleys are good but are lower end when it comes to quality. Costa, revo, and Maui Jim are steps up. It all depends what you want them for. I personally love the few pairs of Oliver peoples I have.

IMO Maui Jim has the best optics.  Plus, they have great customer service and fix glass for cheap.

After many years of torturing my eyes through cheap sunglass lenses and having the frames break after several months of use, I finally took the plunge and invested in a pair of Costa Del Mar in 2011.

I wear them anytime it's sunny out and they don't have a single scratch on the lenses.   The frame has held up and the hinges still feel like the day I bought them.

I'm sure I've gotten my money back by now and enjoyed a pleasing, razor sharp view of the world the whole time.

I wear Revo's now and really like them but I think I'm going to give maui jims a try on my next go around once these break.

The Costa Del Mar 580 Glass lenses give Maui Jim lenses a run for their money, and are better in some ways.

I've never had the Costas. Maui Jim's have nice lenses, but their frames always feel flimsy to me.

I think Revo's lenses are as good, but the frames feel more robust.

These are the two I stick with. However, I just left my Maui's @ Avis car rental    Reading the thread to get ideas as well. I dropped one of the Costa's with 580 glass and one lens shattered. They charged me two arms/legs to replace the lens.

Starting to think quality glasses are not for me - I'm just too careless and rough with them.

Aside from the rare occasion when they shatter, glass lenses are more durable than plastic. WAY more resistant to scratching.

American Optical original pilot sunglasses far outstrip any Ray-Bans I've ever had.  Super flat when folded, bayonet temples and real glass lenses.  Got a pair after I got my eyes lasered up 18 months ago and they're still perfect...

I have all these currently, ranked in order best on top.

Maui Jim Banyon
Bolle King (Polarized)
Ray Ban Predator
Bolle something or other polarized

Oakley Radars.  After wearing the others, looking through the Oakleys is like looking through muddy water.

I've got a pair of oakleys and I love them.  The only mistake was not getting polarized lenses but I need to get eye script lenses anyway.

I had Maui Jims before my revo's.

lighter yes, pretty clear but the lenses had this bubble of magnification, which was wierd when driving because it slightly changed the cluster in my view and was just kind of annoying. It didn't bother me much because I got them for free (moms boss died, we were helping clean out his old stuff, they were with some ski stuff that was going to be given away, so they gave them to me)

now I have Revo's. little heavy but I like them much better.

Actually with revo's new water lenses they have the best water lenses on the market hence the $300+ price tag. They truly blow everything away.

I may have to check them out. But that will be a tough to pill to swallow after how much I paid for my last pair of Revos only to have them blown away by Costa 580Gs for abut half the price.

It's hard to imagine that they are that much better than the 580G lens.

Gargoyles do not make my old ANSI Classics anymore.  My last pair took an 308 casing to the lens from an HK.  Gouged my lens and saved my eye.  So I went on a quest for new shades that will fit my big head.

ESS Rollbars.........ANSI impact rated which I need considering the shit that ruins my glasses.  They also have a replaceable lens.  They fit me like sealed goggles.  They don't catch the wind if you ride.  I really like them.

http://www.esseyepro.com/Rollbar-Series_237_category.html

I used to be an Oakley fanboi but after having them break or fail under silly circumstances I've determined they are junk.

Yup.  Glass lenses are awesome.  Had a pair of Oakley X-Metal Juliets - kept getting scratches on the lenses.  Replacement sets were 90-100 dollars for lenses.  Maui Jim - 60 dollars.  But, since the lenses are glass, I haven't required any replacements.  Or I am less clumsy...

Also, night and day difference in optical clarity.  Go polarized or go home.
