Pretty sure I pay the company to haul my waste away...

I don't get tipped for the job I'm paid to do. It's not like they are waiters or barbers that actually depend on tips.

I don't tip those clowns.

I had to tell then to stop rummaging though the shit and dispose of it like they are supposed to do.

People who want him to take away stuff that he's not supposed to.

I give them old microwave ovens.

Garbage men around my area make about $20-22 an hour depending on experience. (For CDL drivers)  The assistants that just collect the garbage make about $16-18.

Sure, it's hard work in all conditions I get it.  But... I don't see a tip being needed.  Unless your the dickbag with 5 garbage cans, all stuffed to the brim, with bags on the side.

when I had house remodeling and had 600 sq ft of old carpet sitting on the curb, I waited for the truck and tipped them $30 to get everything off - cheaper than ordering a dumpster.  Most garbage collection companies in my area limit amount to 1 cu yard of garbage per pickup and don't allow large furniture.  if you want your couch to be gone and it's not good enough for private "recyclers" that roam my neighborhood before the trash pickers, the tip is the only way to get it out without paying for the dumpster

Back when they did it by hand, possibly tip a pint or a fifth of decent booze.
It's all automated now- i don't tip them anymore.

There is a very long list of things that have never occurred to me.

Tipping the garbage man is on that list.

and when necessary to encourage them to take shit they typically wouldn't.... six pack of decent beer works well...

I always figured tipping was for more personal service like hair cuts, waiting your table, shit like that. Most people probably never even see the trash collectors, they set the trash out and it's gone when they get in from work that evening.

Tip my garbage man? Are you crazy. I have been engaged in low intensity warfare with that bum since I moved into my current home. He constantly refuses to pick up certain items I place out because he is a lazy POS. Its not just me either, numerous neighbors have called and complained about that douche as well but our garbage company refused to do anything about him.

When we had a garbage man who we actually go to know we would give him a Christmas card with a small gift in it as he did a great job. Same with the mail man who actually delivered the mail accurately. When he retired they have so many different mail people now and they do a terrible job. The garbage men seem to rotate routes so I don't really know them. I no longer know the garbage man or the mail man. It is kind of sad.

I pay my bill.

I have to drag the carts out to the roadside and then bring them back to the house after they are dumped. Most of the time the guys don't even have to get out of the truck. What exactly would I be tipping for?

The garbage in my area is picked up by work-crews from the county jail.

Since I am already paying to house, feed and clothe them for their stay I'm pretty sure they can get fucked with regards to any gratuity.

Here's a tip:

Pay attention in school and you won't have to pick-up the shit I throw out.

J/K, everyone needs to work. Some jobs just suck worse than others.

Throw the garbage men a $20, they'll take a body wrapped in an old rug.

I have always found that it is useful to know and treat well those who routinely know your routine. It is pretty much impossible to do this anymore.
