funny how these "holy warriors" are tough as nails when it comes to attacking noncombatants, but when they finally get an actual army to fight, they all throw up white flags.

I just returned from Phuket. Just so all you guys are clear on it, Thailand is a predominantly Bhuddist nation (95%) with a small Muslim population along the southern edge near malasia. In general, the Thais are not tolerant of crap like terrorism or religious extremism in any form.
It could happen but if the terrorists accomplish what they want without a bomb they get their way. My advice would be avoid Phuket, but not from terroriusts. The prices are too high. There are other parts of Thailand as much fun for less $$$. Just my 2 cents |

Hell I love Phuket. The Thais are not to be screwed with - the only Asian country in the area not to be colonized back in the day. The cops there don't take shit (but will take bribes). It is close to Singapore and Indonesia making for a quick get away to a Muslim country and a very popular vaction site for Europeans.
An American sailor or two (or 12) got into a drunken bar room brawl. A couple (2) cops show up and start into the brawl to break the fight up. One drunken sailor grabs the cop's pistol in the holster so the second cop shoots the American sailor dead - end of brawl. No charges and only a one or two day investigation. Lesson learned - don't fuck with the little 110 pound cops as they shoot first and ask few questions later. |
