[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Really cool find. My great grandfathers war letters?

I haven't got to dive into these really well yet. From what I have read, some of these were written while on "base".

The dates span from the early 20's to 1930. I did find this veterans bond. Anyone have any more info on what these could be? Some of the handwriting is really rough to read. Talks about wanting to come home constantly. I know that he was in the service but I don't know which branch. Info is pretty scarce at this point.

I would think that the bond could be cashed in, but you'll need some help. Might be worth more for it'd historical value.

He was a miner and got into the service evidently. He talks about asking his "major" if he could go see his sick wife. Most of the letters were addressed to her.

That's pretty cool.

I have my dad's letters home from WWII also. They're pretty mundane, though. They were pretty heavily censored, of course. (He was a grunt in 99ID)

Oh! You know you might try scanning those letters and using whatever photo editing software you have to bring out the writing. Try different spectrums or adjust brightness & contrast. You'll be surprised what you can do with even the most basic such programs.

Great Find.
I hope the paper does not crumble up on you.
And, go to Walgreens or it's equivalent and purchase some cotton gloves, skin oil-acids can damage old documents.

I have some from my wife's family from WWI. I might scan them and post them sometime.

I have some personal photos that were taken from WW2 by her grandfather. I think some he took but I think some were captures from personal German photo albums because of the tape/glue and writing (in German) on the back of some of the pics. Plus, lol there was no way an American GI was taking pics of Nazi officers at chow, etc.

I sat down one night with a 6 pack and the letters/postcards/photos and got lost in the history. Im envious because that's quite a stack you have there to partake in.
