I busted a roll pin on my reloading press...No biggie I take it out go to Home Depot with it and a Micrometer. Ask the guy you got any roll pins? Says maybe and starts looking.

He asks what's it for because I figure I could get a steel rod and cut it to size. So I say for a Loading press. Says that's kind of small for a loading press. I say its for reloading ammunition and was working fine.

The guy takes 3 steps back and says what you mean ammunition. I said Yea for my BUSHMASTER 223 and show some of the ones I made in my pocket. Sorry sir I can't sell you parts for that type of machine. You have to leave because you are carrying ammo.
I said ok, but I always carry this Glock in here all the time. What's the deal here. I see to guards headed for me. Yo guys what's up I ask. Are you carrying a gun and bullets. Yes I am Like I always do. Here is my badge and I work with DEA & Terrorist task force for over 4 yrs. Is there a problem.
After some questions I was allowed to finish shopping, They realized I had no bad intentions plus they didn't;t hsve the psrt.
So I go to true-value and get 3 roll pins no problem just hope it works out + 60 cents for3 pins

What a day, I fixexd it and loaded h335 @25.5grains with a 55 grain FMJBT and a winchester primer. COL=2.23    Can't wait to see these puppies explode STAY TUNE FOR pressure and power stats......AKA EDPMEDIC

... edpmedic, not to flame you my friend but whenever I go, wherever I go, I seldom bring up the firearm issue. WTF do you care what some DUh weenie in a hardware store knows what your project is for?

... A gun store maybe but not Home Depot.

... Secondly, even though you're LEO why should anyone know you have live ammo much less a Glock on you. CCW in AZ is considered a precious privilege we worked to earn. NEVER in public does ANYONE know I'm armed, NEVER unless of course I need to produce it (God forbid).

... Many colleagues of mine live by these same unwritten rules. Remember bud, an armed society is a responsible and friendly society.

Did you have the loaded rounds in your pocket because it would help you find the roll pin?

Or were you on a secret DEA Terrorist Task force mission?

I had them in my fanny pack with my Glock. I was all flustered when it broke. I am almost up to 10,000 223 FMJBT and JHP. Had some done in my pocket. the others were taken apart and powder, primers were cleaned and put away before I left.

Usually no one knows I carry at all. I wound up at true value he had the right part and belongs to a gun club I found out

hmm..

I'm in Home Depot (lot's of them), all the time and carrying. Never had an issue. I certainly don't make mention of my carrying, but.. sometimes when bending over picking up heavy items my firearm might print a bit. By the way EDP, you showed them your Emergency Medical Technician Badge? I thought you worked for the Fire Department, not the DEA....

*snicker*

EDP is suiting you more and more.. :)

Sorry Winston, but I think Marc was right on this one.  Who the fuck is this clerk to tell him that he can't sell him parts to a reloading press?  This dumb SOB had some nerve and I'm glad Marc pointed out that LAW ABIDING citizens shoot "evil" guns also.  I'm also proud that he pulled the "I'm armed" thing also.  After he told him what the pin was for, do you think the security guards weren't going to escort him out without him flashing his badge?

Marc, I commend you for taking an aggressive stance this time.  I'm also happy you took your money elsewhere!  If they don't like law abiding gun owners, they can fuck themselves.

Huh, the Home Depots around here only sell things that you CAN find anywhere else.

Almost every time I go there, I end up going to a REAL hardware store.

I think it also depends on where the store is located. I can go into my local Walmart and ask for 1000 rounds of 9mm and 500 rounds of .357 and it doesn't even phase the gentleman behind the counter. I would imagine if I did this in a different state, or even just a more liberal area of Indiana, that I would meet some resistance in being able to make the purchase.

Some of you got this wrong...So let me explain a little better. I had the roll pin and he plate with me. I had the ammo and my Glock in a fanny pack.
I showed him the pin and asked did he have this. I need it long enough to fit into this plate. Store clerk..Oh what is it for. Oh it's for my Reloader. Store Clerk What type looks a little small. My first thought HE knew what it was for. I said A Hornady Progressive Ammo Loader. That is where the problem started and I knew it was going down hill.
No one knew I had ONE ROUND which I didn't want laying on my reloading bench before I went out. Everything else was cleaned up and put away. I should have opened the bench again to put it away, but I said the hell with it. I need to hurry and find this pin to finish.
The gun and ammo was only talked about after I was asked why I reload ammo. Then told he had to talk to someone to see if he could sell it to me. I got upset and said are you telling me I have no Second Amendment Rights to carry ammo or a gun. If so I guess you feel I shouldn't have this bullet and gun in your store. This was after almost 40min of them deciding if they could sell me this pin.
I didn't come out flashing ammo or a gun. It stayed in the pouch all the time. All I did was touch the pouch.
Anyone who knows me knows I don't go flashing a gun or ammo in a store let alone let anyone know I carry anything.
I will say MY penis on the other hand is another story. I have a hard time asking for the biggest condom you got. Then have to explain that yes I know I don't look like I am packing like that. So here is the proof, so do you have anything big enough to fit this now. LOL LOL
No writing to Home Depot it doesn't matter and it was funny in a way to see the look on this kids face. They use to carry bins of hard to find parts including generator brushes and Allen screws. They took the bins out, to many parts getting lost.
I didn't want to make this long but I am not some kind of nut flinging a gun and ammo around just want to get that straight.

I obviously got the wrong impression from your original post.

It seems the only thing you did wrong was actually wait 40 MINUTES to get a part from a bunch of ignorant fools.

I would have been pissed off and left about two seconds after the guy told you he didn't think he could sell you a part for the press.

edpmedic,
OK, so where does this come into play? "Here is my badge and I work with DEA & Terrorist task force for over 4 yrs. Is there a problem" Are you DEA, Special Task Force, or a EMT?

When and how did the "guards" come into play?

I would NEVER flash my badge in that type of a situation. Discretion is the better part of valor. It just doesn't promote a positive light on LEO's, and MANY LEO agencies frown very hard on the presentation of a shield in a non criminal situation.

You said all of this occurred after 40 minutes of them trying to decide whether or not they could sell you a freakin' roll pin? Two words would have come to my mind and then out of my mouth after about 2 minutes "Fuck Off", and I would have left. We are talking about a .10 cent roll pin here, not a $1K item.

I am not trying to further flame this subject and I am obviously not opposed to anyone standing up for their 2nd Ammend. rights, but I think you went about it totally wrong, based on your description of the events.

Yeah, but if you went in there and asked for 20 12" sections of 2" pipe and 2 end caps for every pipe, rat poison, and 20 lbs of nails, not only would they sell you them, they'd help you carry them to your car.

But oh no we won't sell ammo reloading supplies.

Good thinkin'

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but what's your take on the War on Some Drugs there ep?  Winnable in the 21st century?

Personally, I'd be embarrassed to be involved in anything DEA-related, but maybe that agency has some redeeming qualities, who knows?

Sorry to hear you got hassled at the Home Depot, but then this is what regular "civilians" have to put up with all the damn time, usually from cop-types like yourself who don't like our attitudes about exercising our rights.

Most auto parts stores sell a small package with various sizes and lengths of roll pins. I got one awhile back and needed one the other day. One was the right size but way too long. Hacksaw to cut and file to smooth made it allright.

I suppose it all depends on the part of the country you're in. We have brushes at work that would work great for cleaning the chamber of my AR-50. I asked where they came from, Home Depot it turned out. Went there, couldn't find them, discribed what it looked like to the clerk, he asked what it was for, told him I didn't know but that I was going to clean a big gun with it. We talked about guns for a few minutes and I went to the Jeep to get a round for show-and-tell. He saw it and said something to the effect of "damn, that's cool" and then he found me a brush in the appliance section. It is a refridgerator coil brush. I love living in the south.

Sorry didn't realize I put down DEA...Meant FDNY & Terrorist Task Force 3 or4 yrs before the WTC. It was atually after the firs WTC bombing and name was changed after the 2nd WTC incident. It was called combined service unit back then.
My badge is in my wallet which holds my pistol permit to show I carry legal.....NO Flame taken I should have used the spell check and read the post first time.

Your right I see I put I see the guards headed towards me...I meant the guards that stamp your receipt or mark it when you leave...They actually are employees of the store non uniformed...Words used the wrong way MY FAULT

I have also been told since the budget cuts the unit was cut and now only works with Fire Marshals. I think maybe a Chief is still part of the unit in EMS but it's been over a year since I have been working.
