Ah yes, men from the government in cammo with ugly black guns patrolling the streets. We should all be safe now, fellow subjects. Breath easier - they should be here soon. Please don't step or look out of turn- you could be next to be apprehended- or shot. It will be your fault if they take you in, after all, if you aren't doing anything illegal, then you have nothing to hide, eh, senor? It's for our own good.

We finally are at one with our downtrodden, disenfranchised and disarmed "brethren" in the Third World, just as the Demoncrat socialists have always wanted.

Bienvenidos campesinos- sal si puedes.....[rolleyes]

I've always wanted to visit a police state.

Wonder when we'll start to have to smuggle people out of Maryland into PA.

"To help with the sniper case, Maryland will erect a 20 foot wall around the state to prevent guns from entering. Please have your papers ready when entering a checkpoint. All cars subject to search."

You can bet they won't have bullets, so new targets for the killer in abundance.

When they allow armed civilian patrols , you know they are getting serious.

"School is the safest place for children to be right now."  --Gun-Grabbing Governor Glendening

Yeah, if they are not in the warm embrace of the state, they run the risk of having a creative, individual thought.  Here's one for 'ya governor--

All the kings horses
and all the kings men
couldn't find the sniper
or stop him from killing again.

i guess i don't understand how the national guard can do anything that the local authorities and/or citizens can't do.

is this anything more than a feel good reaction to make the populace think they're safer?

I think that the gov't will try anything in an effort to keep people from finally realizing that you, the individual citizen, must be responsible for the safety of yourself, family and community.  This is the worst fear of the gun-grabbers and the government, since ideas like that could result in the masses beginning to think and care for themselves.

This is not acceptable to the nanny state and the elite in charge of controlling it.

(Mr. Rogers voice) Can you say, "Kent State, boys & girls?" I knew you could.

What happens when some Guard nimrod pops some civilian who merely spooked the Guard? Kinda hard to reteieve a rd once it's shot has been my experience.

This will not be a problem as the NG will NOT be issued ammo.

The National Guard in MD is only going to be used on Nov 5th so that voters feel somewhat safer to go to the polls.

They aren't being called out now

is this the latest on the news networks?  got a link?

on a more sarcastic note:  i think the populace is completely unaware that this guy could take out more than one person at a time.  he probably chooses not to do so to help evade detection.

wonder what kind of terror he could incite if he routinely started taking out 2 or 3 people at a time.

Guardsmen without ammo, great idea. People should be safe from shovel wielding maniacs with them in place. Anybody with a weapon more formidable (a "scary sniper gun" for instance) is going to be trouble. Of course there wouldn't be the previosly mentioned accidental shootings.
I bet that damn sniper would start targeting the Guardsmen just to prove a point.

In the mean time we can just pray that the ambush gunner guy happens to find a barrel obstruction the next time he tries something...

This is so the sheeple feel safe to come out from whereever they have been cowering and elect Townsend.  Glendening knows that Townsend won't stand a chance if everybody is terrified to come out and vote!  Hopefully she doesn't stand a chance either way!

At what point would you say this stops being a police matter? It this a type of foreign warfare by foreign terrorists? What is the criteria for using the military for defending the USA here at home? We were sworn to protect foreign and domestic.

I am in the Mayland Army National Guard.

There is nothing more important to me than the rights guaranteed under our U.S. Constitution.

It's one of the reasons that I joined.

If I was ever on a road block detail and you had a weapon in your vehicle and I was sure that you're one of the good guys all you would get from me would be a knowing grin and wave on thru.

We're gun nut just like all of you. Hell, we bring our personal AR's, AK's, you name it in to show 'em off and talk about what's our next big purchase is going to be.

I haven't heard about Nov 5th yet, but to be honest I'd be proud as hell to stand guard and ensure the polls are open that day.

I loved serving in the National Guard for about 12 years. I was a combat veteran in the USMC, but wanted to continue to serve in some capacity after I started my family. I knew my Battalion was better than most active duty units since most of us already had years of expereince before joining the Guard, quite a few of us were Marines. So yes it's shock to see armed serviceman on your street corner but I would have loved to had the opportunity to assist LEO's in the hunt for the sniper. If you still have the idea of Guardsman being inept, maybe you watch to many movies? As far as that Kent State comment goes, too bad! I'm proud to have served and would encourage any serviceman to try it.
