Do these people not realize the AR has been around since the early 60s?

No according to the news media it came out in November (for civi's) and Lanza was one of the first to buy it

87% of American's will watch the CNBC special
90% of that 87% will fall asleep during the 1st commercial break
10% of that 90% will go buy another AR within the next week
100% of that 10% will have a hard time finding Ammo
100% of the 87% will wonder where we keep getting these poll statistics from.

Man I like this game. I need no real proof I just typed it on the internet and BAM its real.

Once the liberals and gun-grabbers start to REALIZE just how popular the AR is becoming, they are going to have to be very careful about what they say.

If they say "anyone who owns an AR is a psychopath" - which they COULD have said 20 years ago and gotten away with - they are going to piss off a lot of potential voters.  And the best part is that they DON'T KNOW who is going out and buying them. For all they know, it's people like Mark Kelly, who are supposedly good Democrats who support gun control, but secretly want to (or already) own an AR or AK or other black rifle.

If they try to demonize it too much - but talking about how awful and horrible and powerful it is - all they are going to do is make it REALLY attractive for teenagers to buy, especially since lots of kids now think guns are cool and "use" them in video-games on a daily basis.

So it's going to be a hilarious balancing-act to watch, as they WANT to try to send the message that nobody really needs this "kind of gun" and they WANT to suggest that only deranged crazy people own them, but they will be afraid of saying so.

Very well said.
I'm acquainted with a few people who are exactly what you describe, gun-toting leftists, and this ban talk is upsetting them.
Shockingly they look at the recent mass shootings and see a problem with crazy people and not a problem with the tools used by crazy people.
Of course the couple I've talked to about the ammo situation think the government should stop price gouging on ammo but that's a different topic.

I think they have no clue how common AR15s are now

If they did, you wouldn't have dumbass senators saying it's ok to ban them because they're "not in common use"

They also don't realize how many magazines people own...which is why you have dumbass state reps saying "we'll just do a buy back program for magazines when we ban them"

there is a lot of truth to this and i wish pro gun groups would do more to promote the idea that shooting is simply a responsible, enjoyable activity/sport. everyone gets so caught up in self defense and the constitution and ignores the basic appeal to recreation that a normal person can understand.

I respect your position, but I think it's a little naive. The gun grabbers are on an all out blood lust assault, they will not stop now.

Their rabid zeal will cause them to make statements that would have, in saner times , would have caused out rage and condemnation. However, now I think society is so cowed into going with what they are told by the media so as not to be seen as the out lander, that the statements will be made, it will be believed and it will become the truth.

If guns are seen as being for hobbies only then normal people would have no problems agreeing to get rid of them.  Just get a new hobby they'll say.  Sport use of guns are a byproduct of the 2nd and I don't care about sport shooting at all.

I would expect that CNBC will try to paint the AR15 as negatively as possible.  There certainly will be the prerequisite video of half-crazed militia types slobbering over their AR, "in case I gots to battle the guvmint", but I think the focus will be on how 'bad' the rifle is on its own, and not so much the people who own them.

Expensive, jam-prone (expect the early failures of Vietnam almost 50 years ago to be exhumed and brought back to life), fragile, and the BIG one (drum roll):  how it is inherently unsafe because of its lack of safety features, with lots of crying families of those killed when their AR15 "just went off".

Their goal is to convince the veiwer that even if he can still buy an AR15, its both foolish and dangerous because of all the above, and no "responsible" person would even want one of those expensive unreliable and prone-to-go-off-all-by-itself guns in their home.

I hope I'm wrong.
I hope I win the lottery too.

hopefully its not like that hit piece they did on the Rem 700. If you would have watched that doc you would swear that if you went to a gun store and held a Rem 700 it would steal your wallet, fill out your 4473 for you buy you ammo, go to your house, load its self up and start going off all on its own.

could be good, could be bad.

Of course they will not say "OMG, it´s the shitznitz, everyone should have one... MOLON LABE BITCHES"

If they are the least bit fair to it though, even with their slight slants towards stigmatizing them, it will be good for us.

Hey, i´ve witnessed it for many years in the european media that News agencies made pieces on guns, not outright anti gun but sometimes painting guns as bad and their owners as well.

The Problem with this for them is: every half wit out there GET´s it and doesn´t fall for it. Don´t underestimate the "dumb masses", they aren´t AS dumb as you might think or GD wants you to believe.

I think that more good then bad will come outta this, but we´ll see.

Agreed.  It's been what ... 4 or 5 years since Remington AR15s showed up in Gander Mountain?
Some time thereabouts the various outdoor magazines were doing decent articles promoting AR type rifles for traditional hunting, shooting, and field uses.

Well it's on.  Pretty much what I expected.  Reminds me of a show that came out back in the 70s called The Guns of Autumn which claimed to be an objective look at hunting, but was in reality an emotion based anti-hunting show.  Same thing is going on here.

Prominently featured is the James Yeager civil war YouTube video.  Probably a quarter  of the show has focused on Yeager.

Some of the interviews appear to be edited in order to support their agenda.  It would be interesting to see the unedited interviews

All in all, an emotion based attempt to promote gun control.  Why am I not surprised?
