I loved reading the re-posting of that Sept 11th Thread that was begun by lordtrader at 9:03, just after the first hijacked plane slammed into the first building.

Now, I have a suggestion.

Let's delete all the posts that have been added to this thread and lock it for posterity's sake.

To keep it pristine!

What say you?

Y'all want a poll, or what?

I am TRYING  to read it now!

Delete all AFTER 9-12-01

Then lock and tack?

Well, I voted to delete the new posts and to restore it,

sad considering at least one of those new posts is mine [:D]

Thanks! lordtrader, your opinion should actually be dispositive of the matter, but we will wait to see what answer we receive from this poll, as well as the staff and others.

In the meanwhile, if you posted on that thread, you can always go and delete it yourself!

You don't need anyone's permission to do that!

Outstanding idea ETH.  I was pretty busy in the days following 9/11, so I didn't visit AR15.com that much and I never read this thread.  I've recently started reading all of the posts, and it has stirred up all of the anger and frustration that I felt that day all over again.  Delete the recent posts, lock the thread and tack it, possibly in its own forum.

NEVER FORGET!

I understnad what you are trying to do and I agree with that sentiment. However I see nothing wrong with revisting it every September.

This thread is "kinda" like hallowed ground and people will treat it accordingly.

The special archive is a good idea for significant topics.
Link Posted: 9/22/2002 8:22:12 PM EDT
[#13]
Sure, revisit it, but keep the original the way it was, without benefit of what we know now additions.

It can be linked to any new threads on this subject.

Besides, lordtrader says 'do it!' [:D]

And it's his thread.

Keep the post in it's original state (delete new posts). Lock it and save forever.

Start a new thread "one-year later" sort of thing.

actually, I do believe it is right...

And I will erase my post on that thread as well.

I'll just keep it up long enough until others who might think of posting, read it.

It looks as if 4 folks or so have voted against
delete and lock, but none of them have said why!

Strange that none of the 7 who voted to keep the thread with new responses on it have made a post to explain their position.

If you want to keep the thread alive, unlocked and with new responses being posted, please explain your point of view.

Who knows, we might agree with you.

This is where I was when it started to go down.  I was looking at the picture that Jarhead_22 had posted when my wife called to tell me about it.  While she was still on the phone I refreshed to the post about a second plane and the comment "me thinks this is planned" by LT.

That is the way I'll remember "Where I was when...".

Do both.  Create a copy of this thread, clean, for posterity, but also leave the one with the newer posts.

I like to read peoples reactions to events that heppened a year ago.

Not that I care about what I wrote, of course.  Some folks might still want to add things.

I don't know...    Good idea though, Eric!

eric.. leave it as it is.. lock it now, but leave whats on there.. there.. let the world see what we saw/felt that day.. then let them see the same a year later..

again.. leave all posts there.. just lock it.

I really wish no one would of posted on it.. but they did.. dont change history to make it pretty for some one to look at.. let them see a snap shot of waht was..

As suggested above; copy the original post, lock it for display.  Rename the "new" post and leave it up.  The healing is not over.

How do you 'copy' a thread?

Tell me how to do it.

I haven't a clue.

And someone should have started a thread about 'Sept 11th, One Year Later' and simply linked the original thread!.

Now, we have a thread that could go on for 30 pages.

One more vote for cleaning it up, locking it and archiving the original thread.

On my way now to delete my recent post.

Great idea ETH.

Yeah, I'd say delete the recent ones.

And, out of courtesy to LT, should be done in accordance to his terms as to the "cut-off" date.

Good point ETH, I just assumed such a copy was possible by the system people.  It may very well not be that easy.

The original thread will become invaluable as the years go by, on that we all agree.  I was hoping to preserve an original copy for historical value, and keep an ongoing thread for therapeutic value.

Damn, I get choked up even thinking about it.

when I re-read that post it was like 9-11 all over for me again;surreal and haunting.

may that day never be forgotten and may God bless those who perished in that act of deplorable cowardliness.

and to all who where there to help, God Bless You!

FREEDOM!!

Great idea Eric, I deleted my post also. The WTC thread is an amazing glimpse into the soul of True Americans at a time in which we were uncertain about our future. It is an account of American History unlike any I have ever seen, I believe it should be treated as such and restored accordingly. JMHO.

I'm still waiting for someone with a higher pay grade than mine to give me the green light to delete and lock!

So, in the meanwhile, if you decide to delete your own thread, thanks a lot!

I'll try and see if the thread can be copied, but it's been a while since I asked and I've gotten no responses.

Thanks for giving us your input!

go by the votes and do it now. i suggested this a few days ago. (see bottom of page 17)

this is a piece of history. probably the only hourly (real time) account of the 9/11/01 attacks on the net.

Maybe even preserve it all the way to the last post which I think was 9/12/01, since out west there's the time difference.
