I'm currently paying over 9k for my health insurance.     I'm self employed, perfect health 50 years old.    I buy my own from BlueCross.      Its taking every dime I have left after taxes , food and housing.
My counterpart in Germany pays half as much for health insurance.     I just think the American healthcare system isn't working.   Something needs to be done.

Still don't know what ramification Obamacare has on me.

Your insurance premiums will go up every year until the point where private insurance companies won't be able to compete with the government.

Mine are going up 28% for this next year.

Also, Americans basically subsidize the rest of the world with R&D in pharmaceuticals and medical technology.

My health insurance is the same cost as it was last year, $50/month, though the plan changed slightly.  It's like a combination of a PPO and HMO.  It probably helps that the company I work for has over 45,000 employees.

Are you kidding?

I was looking at buying insurance.  I may yet (catastrophic only) just as a temporary security blanket.

The instant the "you can't be turned down" provision kicks in, I'll drop it again, tho.

Nor will I buy the minimum level to avoid the obamacare tax, either.   Not if the minimum level is going to cost what I think it will.

My current health insurance is through my employer....  It's significantly cheaper than what I was paying for a private health plan.

...This was one of the motivating factors for me to move to corporate America.  *shrugs*.

I am 38 yr old healthy non-smoking male and mine is $240/mo with $1000 deductible, 80/20 coinsurance up to $3k then 100%.  Other posters are correct, Obamacare is raising your premiums, not lowering.

I stayed in the Navy to retirement.  That is how I get my Health Care Insurance.  I was thinking about getting out at 10yrs but looked into insurance at that time and it was over $750/month for my family.  Now it would be 2-3 times that.  Now I have medical for life and my wife actually has good insurance through her work also.  SO she is double covered.  I do use the VA for the majority of my HC though.

Do you actually think that Obamacare is going to provide you with cheap/free and high quality healthcare?  It's going to do exactly the opposite of that.

You may not believe that now and think that you can troll some people at this stage.  You'll find out soon enough that you've been had.

BCBS 399 month for wife and I.  30&27 respectively non tobacco users.  1500/yr deductible and 80/20 co-insurance that maxes out at 1500 as well.  So up to an additional 3000 on the 4800 for a total spend of 7800 if we were to max everything out.

Your counterpart in Germany pays taxes, very very high taxes, you know that right? You're also correct that the American health INSURANCE system isn't working, government has seen to that and Obamacare will finish it off.

Hope you're prepared for your twilight years to be more expensive, with worse care. I'll bet you voted for him, didn't you?

5k deductible quotes I've seen for me are in the 50 or 60 dollar a month range.

God only knows what that's going to become when the "you can't be turned down" provision goes into effect.

Yep. wealth redistribution scheme with a side "benefit" of destroying private insurance and replacing it with single payer for all.

Since you are so healthy why don't you get a high deductible plan? Shop around? Negotiate with a primary hcp for a discount based on cash payment up front. People do it all the time, not my problem if you aren't savvy enough. Find someone who cares what you pay for health care?

Why does your desire to pay the same amount as someone in Germany obligate me to subsidize your health insurance? Here's your answer:  it doesn't. You want to be self-employed. Deal with it. Don't come looking for a handout.

Since Obamacare was passed my ins went from $365 a month to $135 a month, I was still under 26 and in grad school and was able to go back in my parents plan from my own bcbs, Then it went to $156 after I turned 26, same bennies 1k deduct, 2k out of pocket and then 1mill max pay covered from ins. Now 100% covered by employer through community care. I don't like all the policies that happened with Obama care but good chuck was aimed at helping kids my age especially with the whole student loan section.

According to Rush limbaugh, the cheapest plan for a family of 4 would be $16,000 a year.

I am one person working part time at the moment. According to my tax advisor, I have to sign up for Medicaid or get hit with a $95 fine this year, then $395 next year.

Medicaid is supposed to be free for me but if they don't take me, I may just take all my cash & not pay taxes at all on it. I'm barely making it as is, buying any fancy insurance isn't feasible.

I had my wisdom teeth cut out Friday & had to sell my only AR to do it. I pay my bills when they happen, I am just not the person who can afford this extra nonsense.

God save us all.

As it is now, you have to wait weeks to be seen by your doctor.  What do you think will happen when 30million previously uninsured FSA soldiers get their health care? Who's doctors are they going to go to?  How many doctors are going to throw in the towel when all this happens?

You're gonna have 30mil more patients and a crap load fewer doctors.

Don't know, I haven't had healthcare since I was laid off.  Not going to spend on COBRA as a healthy young adult.

Hoping to get a decent job with healthcare before 2014, if not maybe I won't be penalized for not carrying health insurance. If I have to take a shitty job with no healthcare I'll be pissed to have to pay a 'tax' (fine) for no health coverage.

While I was employed with health benefits for 8 years I went to my PCP once for general checkup.

You realize this isn't happening right? Med schools are turning away applicants in record numbers, this could be due to the fact they want their rejections rates high to look "prestigious" but right now there is not a shortage of college kids wanting to be doctors.

Up to this point, my fair share has been going to "fuck that, I am not paying into that insurance racket".

Would have been nice if we went after tort reform instead of insurance, you know, so we could have actually fixed something. Instead, now I am forced to pay in, at the barrel of a gun.

Im part of that crowd that has none, mostly because Im dragging huge debt from a divorce, a kid in college and a 10 year old. Im sure that since I cant afford insurance now, things will be better when Im forced to buy the "free" stuff, right?

Allow health insurance companies to sell high-deductible "catastrophic care" plans across state lines.
Allow hospitals and other providers to refuse non-critical care to non-payers.

These two things would solve a huge part of the problem.
