Benchmade is probably the most mainstream good knife brand. Oh we have a knife forum under Armory at the bottom also. lots of shit in there.

Tried just ab everything, keep going back to spyderco. Seems they have a blade for just ab every use I'd need.

Don't want a knife for one use.  I want a knife that you'd want if you could only pick one.  Maybe two, with one being foldable.

I assume you mean tactical or EDC knife.  Use is a big factor in what is good, and of course budget for off the rack versus custom.  For example I am big into cooking/kitchen knives and the steel, geometry, and best makers are not the same as any of the knives mentioned above.

Benchmade 3550 if you can carry an auto in your AO.

Spyderco Caly 3 if you can't.  My only complaint is that it's not a frame lock.  Great knife none the less.  Nice and thin.

This plus a mention for Emersons and ZTs though they tend to be a little pricey.

Anything more like strider or sebenzas as you would probably know come with a big price.

The Microtech Arbiter is fucking sweet.  If only I had $1500 to drop on a knife.  That's a bad ass fucking knife.

No more than $300.  I want it to last a long time.  When I get the fuck out of NJ and make some friends who hunt and spend time fishing and in the outdoors I'll take that up.  Plus, around the house type of shit.  Like I said, I'm a noob.  I'm not afraid to spend some cash though.

So you're looking at a large, heavy, 'tactical' folder that runs $200? I wouldn't buy a knife in this category or at this price. A 5 oz knife is not a good carry. 3.5" is more blade than you need for daily chores. $200 is way too much to spend for a folder. I would look for a smaller, lighter, quality blade for $100 or less. Benchmade is a good place to start. Just like with guns, the knife you actually carry is your best knife.

Drink the busse, swamp rat and scrap yard cool-aid. For folders I like cheaper, but have a few benchmade and spyderco's, but kershaws are a good value and i don't beat myself up if i lose them or beat them up.

I'm in love with Speedsafe. I actually have a boner about it right now. Which is inherently quite dangerous given the 'edgy' cause of the boner in the first place.

Go buy a knife and figure it out like the rest of us did.  You don't know what you really want it for, but you want it to work for it.  Good knives are built for specific functions.
Go buy a Benchmade or a ZT or a Spyderco or a Kershaw or a whatever catches your fancy and fits in your pocket.  It takes a while to figure out what you want your knife to do.  If you take care of it, and you decide it's not for you, you can get most of your money back here on the EE.

Sounds like good advice.  Thanks.  I was looking at the Benchmade 810 Contego but that's the same price.

You can get a Spyderco Military off ebay for 120 and up.
Don't like it? Flip it easily!! It's a big blade.
Might try the para-military. Either way you can get

Also the Chris Reeve Sebenza is timeless.

I've had 3 SOG folders.  All went back for warranty repair.  All came back with issues.  All 3 were given away as I was ready to throw them away....
