....looking to buy a quality knife...i'm pretty much a knife noob.
Point me in the right direction... I was looking at an Emerson CQC 15 |

Benchmade is probably the most mainstream good knife brand. Oh we have a knife forum under Armory at the bottom also. lots of shit in there.

What do you want to do with it. Can't recommend something without a use.

I'm a huge zero tolerance fan.

Tried just ab everything, keep going back to spyderco. Seems they have a blade for just ab every use I'd need.

I assume you mean tactical or EDC knife. Use is a big factor in what is good, and of course budget for off the rack versus custom. For example I am big into cooking/kitchen knives and the steel, geometry, and best makers are not the same as any of the knives mentioned above.

Benchmade 3550 if you can carry an auto in your AO.
Spyderco Caly 3 if you can't. My only complaint is that it's not a frame lock. Great knife none the less. Nice and thin. |

Spyderco Benchmade Kershaw / ZT For Mainstream production stuff This plus a mention for Emersons and ZTs though they tend to be a little pricey. Anything more like strider or sebenzas as you would probably know come with a big price. |

Been carrying the same Benchmade for 13 years, never looked back.

How much? Custom or production? No more than $300. I want it to last a long time. When I get the fuck out of NJ and make some friends who hunt and spend time fishing and in the outdoors I'll take that up. Plus, around the house type of shit. Like I said, I'm a noob. I'm not afraid to spend some cash though. |

I was looking at an Emerson CQC 15 So you're looking at a large, heavy, 'tactical' folder that runs $200? I wouldn't buy a knife in this category or at this price. A 5 oz knife is not a good carry. 3.5" is more blade than you need for daily chores. $200 is way too much to spend for a folder. I would look for a smaller, lighter, quality blade for $100 or less. Benchmade is a good place to start. Just like with guns, the knife you actually carry is your best knife. |

Drink the busse, swamp rat and scrap yard cool-aid. For folders I like cheaper, but have a few benchmade and spyderco's, but kershaws are a good value and i don't beat myself up if i lose them or beat them up.

I'm in love with Speedsafe. I actually have a boner about it right now. Which is inherently quite dangerous given the 'edgy' cause of the boner in the first place.

Companies I dig:
Chris Reeve Spyderco Benchmade Victorinox Esee |

Go buy a knife and figure it out like the rest of us did. You don't know what you really want it for, but you want it to work for it. Good knives are built for specific functions.
Go buy a Benchmade or a ZT or a Spyderco or a Kershaw or a whatever catches your fancy and fits in your pocket. It takes a while to figure out what you want your knife to do. If you take care of it, and you decide it's not for you, you can get most of your money back here on the EE. |

I was looking at the Benchmade 810 Contego but that's the same price. |

You can get a Spyderco Military off ebay for 120 and up.
Don't like it? Flip it easily!! It's a big blade. Might try the para-military. Either way you can get your money back. |

Benchmade
Spyderco Microtech SOG Plenty to choose from, all use good steel.

Great knifes, but somewhat of an overstatement - especially if you are looking for an everyday folder.
Quoted: Randall, the rest don't matter. |

Check out ZT301, ZT0560, ZT0550 Spyderco, Benchmade, Microtech Also the Chris Reeve Sebenza is timeless. I like Strider SnG's and SMF's, yes the guy is a tool or whatever still awesome blades. |

Quoted: Really liking Grayman knives. No shit? I have a couple, crudely made and dull as tripe. Seems like a nice guy even if he supposedly exaggerated his background. Oh I think zero tolerance are about the best mass produced folding knives and esee the best production fixed knives.
