Well, I just sold an old truck of mine. And I need to get the title.

Here's the problem. When I payed this truck off three years ago, I never received the title. The Bank mailed the title to the wrong address. And then that bank got sold to another bank.

Well, I went to the DMV to file for a lost title today. Turns out that I now have to get a release of the lein in order to get another title.

The problem is I don't recall the name of the bank that bought the old bank (it was an out of state bank, First National Bank Of Fargo). So I don't know how to get ahold of the current bank to get this sorted out.

Is there some kind of resource sight out there where I could look up the name of the bank that bought them out? I tried a simple word search with the original name, and came up with nothing.

Any ideas would be apreciated.

The FDIC might keep tabs on changes in bank ownership, try doing a search on their site, or try calling them tomorrow.  Same with the Federal Reserve, although not all banks are members of the Fed.

I've had similar problems as well. Original bank get's bought out, don't know who bought them. I would ask some of the other banks around town, I'm sure they will know who bought who. Also, the lien release is what the bank sent you after you paid off the loan, not the title. That's standard operating procedure.

Why can't you call the bank operating at the physical address of your old bank? Surely there will be someone still there from three years ago. Even a banker goob will remember the name of his last bank he worked for. Good luck.
