My wife carries her handgun every day, but really does not like any of my rifles. I thought the AR would be a good fit for her, but she thinks its too snappy and heavy, plus complicated. She is very petite, but wants a rifle she can shoot if ever needed (and monthly target shoot), but one that is stupidly simple. What does your wife shoot? Think the M1 carbine would fill this role? Suggestions?

Well she's not my wife, but does my Girl Friend count?
My G/f likes my SAR2 Maybe I'll get some sexy pics of her and her favorite gun? hee hee |

My wife feels very comfortable with the AR-15 and carries a Kahr K-9, she still trying to get use to her shotgun a 20 ga. Lady Defender. Now you know why I try to behave all the time.

My wife shoots a polymer stocked .22 Savage Bolt gun with 4x BSA rimfire scope. Out to 50 meters she can put 50 rounds into a whole about the size of a quarter.

|
My wife shoots a WW II M1 Carbine and loves it! The original fun gun!

Mrs Grock likes the AK (SAR1) but is much more accurate with the Colt MT6601.

My .22 100 round Calico. Less reloading means more shooting means more FUN! [beer]

View Quote I don't think that you'll find a lighter recoilling, lower weight rifle than an AR that is centerfire. You might be able to get a rimfire. I'm willing to bet that she won't like an M1 Carbine either because they have a little more recoil than an AR (at least in my experience). |
|
I bought a 38 snubby & 30 m1 carbine for her. She ordered Sig 225 & has taken my CAR15 (leaves the stock all the way forward. She did well w/ My Ruger 10/22 & Calico (9mm).
|
|
She has nothing but Glock handguns and she just put a 9mm Olympic AR on layaway.

View Quote That's perhaps what will happen. She just did not like the AR. The 1 gun that she likes to shoot (besides her Glock) is my Vector Uzi....however I can't afford another one! Maybe I need to find a pistol caliber rifle for her. |

Tweet shoots all of them. Her favorite is her A3 Shorty. She also likes the SKS. Her least fave are the SAR-1s and the CETME. She's not too fond of the Mossberg either.

My wife really wont shoot any of my rifles. She knows how, but she'd rather go the the indoor range. She doesn't have the patience for a longer outing. So she shoots a Ruger Security-Six 357 Mag./ At the range she'll load it w/ .38 - but when loaded at the house, it's the real deal. I just hope no one ever trys to mess w/ her cats! She'd freak! [rolleyes]

My wife shoots most all of my toys. My featherweight 30.06 is the only one she doesn't like. As for her favorite, she says (I just asked her) my Mini 14 ranch-rifle with a 3-9 scope. She also says the Bushmaster shorty with the AK74 brake runs a close second.

i have not been able to get my better half to join the fun world of guns..... grrr.

A Browning A-Bolt .223 w/boss system. Dang she is a hell of a shot!
|
|
My wife doesn't shoot much but she does like my
AR's. She was relieved that they didn't kick very much. Otherwise I got her a little .380 to carry with her. |
|
A marlin camp 9 carbine. I have no idea why she likes it, but she's stopped me from selling it, even though I see them at the shows for over $100 more than I bought it at. they supposedly stopped making them

Marlin 1894 lever action in .357 magnum. Simple to operate, light, negligible recoil, powerful enough for any 2 legged and most 4 legged predators.
|
|
Her Sako 25-06 w/Shilen barrel that I had made for her so I could get my Sako 300 win mag back
|

Mine has two that are her own--a Rem. M-700 in .30-06 and a Clot CAR-15 with a red dot scope. The AR is an old (1974) one with the light bbl. contour. She likes that a lot. She will shoot anything including AK's, SKS's, other AR's, and our State Arms Rebel in .50 BMG. She just likes to shoot and can out-shoot many men with more experience. She has killed five deer also. Did I mention--I LOVE my wife?!!!

|
My wife shoots all of my stuff, but she likes my Remington 788 in .243 Winchester the best. She hates my Marlin .30-30. Says it rattles her teeth. I've been trying to talk her into an AR-10T in .243, but no luck, so far.[}:D]

Quoted: a Clot CAR-15 with a red dot scope View Quote Hmmm, I'll look for that one [:D] |

My wife has a single shot, though it usually can't be fired again for at least 20 minutes. [:D]

My wife's favorites were the SKS and the M1 Carbine. She got so pissed when she found out I had sold them.
|
|
Her favorite is her Vz24 in 8mm, of course, with the Garand coming in a close second. I started her off on the large calibers and she just stuck to those.

Quoted: Think the M1 carbine would fill this role? Suggestions? View Quote My wife loves her M1 carbine. I ordered a Choate full-length pistol grip stock, which makes it easy to reach the mag release with your trigger finger. The size, weight, recoil, and simplicity are just right for her. She likes to hunt with her Remington Model 7 in .223 and shoot my suppressed PSS in .308. She also carries the Kahr K9. Now if I could just get a Surefire dedicated weaponlight on the M1 carbine... |

These are my wife's favs-top is a Marlin 1894 CS in .32-20...hot loaded as far as you can go in that cartridge. Barrel is cut to 16.25" and a 100 grain softpont is doing about 2000 FPS out the muzzle. Her very fav is Python below, though. Has not shot my AR, and I couldn't get her to shoot the ChiCom M-14 that was it's predecessor, nor will she shoot my .30-06 for some reason. Deadly accurate with eaither of these two, however-6" groups at 100 yards w/the Colt-no rest, and 2" with the rifle. Nick |

umm....how come I can't get it to show the pic?
never mind-fixed it computer dunce in Oregon |

My wife likes my FAL, my AR-15, and my 1903A3. They're all mine, dammit! Her 9mm AR is coming in soon enough though. I'm sure I'll shoot the hell out of it! [:D]

My personal favorites to shoot are my Mini-14 and my AR15. My boyfriend also got me a MAK90 that I really like to shoot. I like his MP5 and the heavy G3 and the M1A.
I think that main difference for a female isn't really the rifle/handgun caliber, it is the what there is to grab on to. For instance, his MAK90 with the folding stock is difficult for me to shoot whereas my MAK90 that has the bipod and full stock is fun to shoot. His ARs with the collapsible stocks aren't as fun to shoot as my AR with the solid stock. His Mini-14 with the factory folding stock wouldn't be as much fun as my solid stock Mini. I don't particularly care for his shotguns (unless they are gas operated) or various other guns he has, I am just mentioning the favorites. However, in handguns, I shot the HK SOCOM Mark 23 (obviously in .45) and I loved it. I shoot his HK USP (.40) and Sig 226 (.40) and love them both. His M1A is a lot of fun to shoot, but it has a bi pod that gives my some relief from the heavy .308 caliber. The G3 is also set up with a bipod, cheek rest, etc. which makes it much easier to shoot a big old .308. I went off on a tangent but my point is, women obviously don't have a man's upper body strength so they need some props on the gun (regardless of the caliber) to help them distribute the recoil throughout their body and help them hold on to ALL of the gun. Men can hold the recoil with the arm but women need their whole body. You can give a girl a huge gun like the HK Mark 23 but the balance of the gun is what makes the difference. Bipods, recoil pads, etc. help tremendously. |

My wife (5'2") doesn't shoot much, but will shoot anything I own when she does.
Stuff I have out here - M4gery (A2 upper,) Ruger 10/22, Winchester 1300, and (this one's hers) an Arisaka that I restocked (Monte Carlo/Sporter) and rechambered to 7.62x39. Now, I've got to get her to play with the rest of the kids I left back home... FFZ |

My wife owns:[x]
Star 'Firestar' 9mm and shoots it a lot, Charter Arms 'Undercover'.38, but says its "too jumpy" Rem700 Mountain Rifle in .260 thats "pretty and shoots good" She'll shoot anything I take to the range but likes the SKS and M4gery. You should see my 17yo daughter empty my 1911!![8D] |

My wife's rifle is a Remington Model 600 in .308 with a Simmons WTC 2.5-8X36 scope. She is a great shot with it, both close up and way out. The 1st deer she killed was at 225 yards, a heart shot. That little rifle is loud but short and light, perfect for her. Kinda like her, too. 'Cept the rifle isn't blessed with D cup boobiedoos!

My wifes favorite shotgun is the HK M1super90. Her favorite rifle is a Henrey Golden boy .22. I bought her a Colt sporter lightweight. A 6530 I think. It has the four position stock that she leaves on the first position and a 16" lightweight barrel that I had cut down to make it 16.1" with the FS perm attached. She loves it and I do to. The weight seems perfectly balenced.
She also has a Walther P22. Thats her favorite pistol. She also likes a pistol my father has. Its a SW .32 revolver. She's good with the Berretta 96 but she doesnt care for it. |
|
She has hunted with TC New Englander .50 Cal Blackpowder, Mossberg 12 Gauge slug gun and Ruger 30-06 Rifle. She likes my AR though because it's easy on her shoulder. She's a fragile little flower.

My fiancee likes shooting my M96 recon over all my other rifles.
