wandering around Dicks sporting goods at lunchtime and picked this up for what I thought was a decent price....Don't know much about them (Maverick) but it's got a 3" chamber, 18 1/2 cylinder bore barrel....will load here up with buckshot and wait on the apocalypse

It's basically a budget version of the Mossberg 500. I believe most parts are interchangeable.

Nice! If it's limited to 3rds, take the barrel off, hold the gun upside down and give it a shake, the high tech wooden mag plug will magically appear

Cool. I doubt the salesperson bothered to tell you it'll be $159 on Friday, but $179 is still a good price.

Excellent choice...
Now go buy a 20, 24, or 28" barrel. All of these take chokes. I've got a 20 vent rib, but might buy a 24". |

If they had the same safety as the 500s, I'd probably pick one up just because. I don't need another shotgun with the controls in different locations.

I have one and it hasn't had any problems. Not my go to gun for hunting, but with the pistol grip it fits great between the bed and the nightstand

I kept one in the bottom of my duck boat that I used to guide everyday of season for years and years and never even thought about cleaning it. Used it as a push pole, a paddle, and a backup for a client and it went bang every time someone pulled the trigger. That is saying something. |

I've got one and it does the trick, especially for a $150 gun. Plus I got lucky and it actually has an action tube separate from the fore-arm. I had to "adjust" the stops in my new forearm with a dremmel because apparently I have the short action tube, but it's better than the newer ones I see where the forearm is one solid piece and not removable.

I seriously doubt there is a huge any difference between how your $ 179 Maverick shoots and how my Mossberg 590 shoots
Hopefully I'll have mine after Thanksgiving along with my Arfnelli. I'll start a thread then

Can I shoot buckshot out of my Crescent Davis double barrel? It's the cheapest shotgun I own.
I paid forty bucks for it. A guy I knew drove a garbage truck and he found it when someone threw it away. I'm guessing a widow didn't know what to do with it and tossed it. |

The Mossberg 500 has a MUCH smother action, has the safety in the best place for a field gun and doesn't have the annoying shell elevator. There was less than a $50 price difference, which to me really made them the same price. This was in 2007, and I shot trap with that shotgun almost every weekend for several years. Round count? 10,000 maybe....Not a single part failure...... |

we have these maverick threads about every other month
12 of us show up that own them and tell you about never having a problem 2 870 owners show up talking about how crappy they are sometimess some 500 owners show up not liking the safety sometimes a shot gun snob shows up...
my maverick has been trouble free its 11 years old now and had the wood dowel even back then my 870 has been trouble free. my fancy 1100 has been trouble free but pretty much a safe queen my cut down 1100 fun toy short strokes if you weigh less than 150 pounds. if your a typical fat arfcommer it runs like a champ fwiw I plan on buying two more mavericks just to have around |
