"Absurdity of pistol shooting in a gunless country" Actual article title.

( When I copy/pasted this my spell-checker offered to replace gunless with gutless. Hahah)

You will not believe what a British world class competitive shooter has to do in order to practice in the UK.

Oh England, how far you have fallen.

Link is to a UK tv station news page.

A sample quote -

“While Gault is trying to recapture the four gold medals he won at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, the pistol-shooting range is legally required to be surrounded by temporary fencing in case he, or the other competitors, attempt to throw the guns to somebody who can rush off with them with a fast getaway car.”

the spineless brits shouldn't be allowed to compete in shooting events

if the shooters want to compete, move to a real country

Based on history, and a lot of personal experience meeting brits, this whole gun thing amazes me.

I mean,  historically, the  brits are anything but spineless.  They have shone well in warfare for 1000 years.   They have many admirable traits, and our culture is largely based on theirs.

This gun hysteria of theirs I do not understand.  I mean, they even KNOW the ban did no good but stand by it.

Weird.

THIS one is going up on DemocraticUnderground, though I am CERTAIN it will be ignored.

Edited to add:

OK, it's up here.

Now we see if there's any reaction.

According to Gault, he has been under pressure from fellow shooters not to partake in the Commonwealth Games

It would do my heart good to see shooters from other countries support him by boycotting the event. Let all the shooters show up, then at the last minute refuse to shoot — in front of live, international TV. What better way to put the spotlight on the absurdity of British gun control laws?

Oh yeah, cause those sport pistols are soooo useful in crime.

I love the comment about armed guards.

I'd be somewhat shocked, but I've thought the British government was pretty clueless for some years now.

Those politicians really think their ban is doing something, don't they?

Don't forget that a CA woman's Olympics dreams were almost shattered when the CA "AW" ban came in.  (Her horribly expensive Swiss pistol had a magazine in front of trigger guard -- a sure sign of the gang-banger's "AW".)  The sponsor of the CA "AW" ban actually had the guts to come out and say how she should be happy to give up her "AW"s to make CA safer.

All of the bad publicity did make CA carve out a narrow exception.  Oddly enough, not enough Californians saw the absurdity of the whole "AW" ban platform even with this glaring example of stupidity.
