Get your priorities straight man!
You simply have to either: A) Make it clear to your wife that a motorcycle is not a luxury, but a necessity. Without it you may not live long enough to move to Vermont. B) Buy one and keep it at a friends house. She will think that in your time away from the house you are cheating on her. Let her continue to think that until she is absolutely convinced you have another woman on the side and confronts you about it. At that point admit that you do, and ask if your wife is interested in a threesome, then hand her a helmet. Her reaction to a motorcycle purchase will be far less violent than her reaction to a mistress... C) Ditch the wife, buy a motorcycle, know true happiness... Shiney side up... |

Stopped riding before I was married. No money. Soon as she said the magic word, D-I-V-O-R-C-E, I picked up a 69 Sportster used. Ah, the memories. Still got my 85 Wide Glide I bought new. Ah, the memories. Now, what was her name?

Shadowblade, thanks for your help man, but...
A)... wouldn't work. I recently bought a new F150, so that makes it harder to justify a bike as a "necessity." B)... wouldn't work either. She would just be pissed that I had been riding around without her on the back. Oh, she wants me to get a bike, eventually, but right now is just bad timing. C)... thinking about it. [;D] brouhaha - "motorsickle" - from an old Arlo Guthrie song... I don't want a pickle... Just want to ride my motorsickle. [8P] DAMMIT! ANOTHER one just went by, a FAT BOY. [V] |

Well, the sun set over the Pacific about two hours ago, with a microflash of green and a sizzle as the last rays of the sun dipped below the horizon.
The constant parade of motorsickles has trickled down to a few an hour. I saw what looked like an Indian Chief a few minutes ago. I think he rode by just to torment me. It's funny, but I didn't notice that many bikes on the road a few months ago, but now every frickin' motor I see turns my head. Like a pubescent boy with raging hormones, looking to hump everything in sight, something inside me screams to ride. I'm in lust for a machine. BTW, I was mostly kidding about my answer to option C)... but NOTHING is written in stone, if ya know what I mean. [;)] varmitgun, there's always next Sunday. At least you have a bike. Your best bet is to find a good, clean, non franken Harley. I've had many bikes, Hondas, Suzukis, Triumphs, and Harleys. It is very difficult to justify $25,000 on a new Harley. So, do what I did. Scour the paper and find a good low mileage used Harley. I found a 1987 FXST several years ago. My pal Steve checked it out for me and gave me thumbs up. We put a Dyna ignition on it, Vannce & Hines Longshots, a S&S Super E carb, straight risers, a bug deflector,and new tires and rims. These upgrades were done over several years. It is a sweet bike and costs less than 1/2 of a new bike.Considering Clevelands riding season, I'll never wear it out!!!! PS, I should have kept my 1977 XLCR........ Good luck!!!

[b] redray, if and when I move to Vermont, I'll let you drive my [b]FORD[/b] truck. [;D] Green_Furniture, how far are you from Nashville? I fly into there when I go home to see the folks. I'll not only bring the ammo, but I'll cook up some good BBQ if you supply the grill. [:D] BTW, my buddy is thinking of moving up to a new Valkyrie or a VTX. If he does, he said he'd give me a super deal on his 750 Shadow. Not my first choice but the bike is beautiful and rides nice, and it has a few accessories. He let me ride it a few weeks ago. [^] |

Big_Bear, I turned down the use of a friends Yamaha R1 today (a few friends went for a ride up to and around Mt. Rainer) to stay home and finish up some projects. I am done with the projects, my friends are still riding and I am on the computer!

If I ever win the lottery I'll get a Harley [b][i]AND[/i][/b] move to Vermont. Never been there but I've seen pictures. I'll bet loud pipes sound reeeal gooood going through all those covered bridges. [:D]

Right now I work for metrorail, and before that I was a flight simulator technician. I could adapt to rail and/or electronics jobs. Yeah, she has ridden before. She used to have a boyfriend who rode, and her Dad has an Electra Glide. Actually, I looked into renting a bike for a day, but it's fairly expensive, and besides that, I don't have my motorcycle license yet. I'm going to be taking a rider safety course through CHP in the near future. |

Big_bear, this is the best thing you can do to get your license. In most states, passing the MSF course means you don't have to take the test from the state for your license. Plus, you usually get an insurance discount with proof of passing the class. Not to mention the riding techniques and safety strategies they'll show you. Even people who have been riding a long time can benefit from one of these classes. I used to teach these courses years ago, and every time I taught the experienced riders course, students used to come up to me after the class and tell me they were surprised at how much they got out of it, even after already having lots of experience. That Shadow 750 is a decent bike too. Very reliable. Good luck! |
