Howdy,  I've wanted to make my own target stands, just to have when needed.

I see Dillion has some (I made a set already today like the 2 piece below).  I'd also like to make one(+) that doesn't use stakes (like the top one)  only problem with making the fixed width one is the Width.  What would be optimal, considering that I may get involved with any different number of events.

My Dillon's measures 19 3/4 in accross but that is for the stake width - your cardboard can be wider.
By the way you might find that the plastic signage used for political advertising is better than paper cardboard - takes more hits and stands up to wetness much better. (like they were expecting them to be shot at or wetted down by voters.  Anyway tis the season and you can pick the looser of your choice - lots of signs to choose from.

Only problem I have had with this is wind blowing mine over so carry something heavy to put on the legs (shot bags work well).

dudes, I have metal and a gas and mig welding equip.. I CAN do this myself, I don't need to buy what I have here in 'raw' form  [:D]

Get some 2x2 deck railing and go to town. I made a couple out of that and some bolts and nuts so it would fold down and fit into the back of my Jeep. The width is pretty standard at 24 in. so I'd work off of that. Height is about 6 ft, which is the length of the 2x2. I built two of them with bases that fold up into a 3 foot length for about 12 bucks. Give it a try, they work and are cheap.

Ok, here's Dillon's spec's
Legs & cross member made out of 1" x 1" thin wall square tubing
Each leg measures 19 1/2 inch long
cross member is 18 inches long

Upright stake holder is made of 1" x 2" thin wall square stock 3 1/2 inchs tall.

to the cross member weld the legs at the center point of the tube to center of web. (T)
then on top of that weld the uprights.
