A while back someone posted a great idea about an "all gun" TV channel.  While I love the idea, someone else pointed out that advertising is everything, and that would make or break a network.

So, as an alternative, I would propose "The Self-Reliance Network".  Think Backwoods Home Magazine all day, plus news and entertainment at night.

Typical day's programming:

Mornings would be cartoon fare for the kids.  Johnny Quest(the 1960's version, Grandpa Jack (animated version of the excellent JPFO phamplets), and then a cartoon called "They Met Danger".  

This would be an animated version of one of my favorite books when I was a kid.  "They Met Danger" was a children's oriented book that chronicled the exploits of Medal of Honor recipients (Frank Luke/"Scooter" Burke/Alvin York, etc.).

Then we'd have to have a morning news/op-ed show to compete with the major networks.

Next I envision a couple of hours of shows dealing with homeschooling and making the most of what you have at home(alternative energy, gardening, livestock, etc.).  

For the noon hour I was toying with the idea of soap operas.  One "We the People.." would chronicle the lives and events of a Klamath Falls type community that is besiged by evil guvmint types.  The show would be very pro-BOR oriented.

The other, "The Mountains and the Praries" would be a homesteading soap opera shown from the POV of the younger members of the family.  Think of all those teen shows on the WB network and you'll see what I'm getting at here.

Late afternoon would feature some more female-oriented programming.  I'd like to see an "Armed and Female - The Series", hosted by Paxton Quigley (of course).  

She, and a rotating Second Amendment Sister co-host, would address self-defense issues.  There would also be a success story reenactment ala "Rescue 911".  

Late afternoon/early evening would feature a Ranch Rescue update, a news wrap-up and a comedy show.  I really like the idea of a half-hour or so of humor at the end of the day.  A show that makes fun of socialists and statists would help take the stress off of the day.

Then we'd have "The Ayoob Files", a live action version of his column in Handgunner.  Again, we'd have a reenactment of the incident.

Then, a movie.  Of course we'd show standard action fare from Hollywood, but the network could produce its own movies and mini-series - Atlas Shrugged and Unintendend Consequences.  I'd also love to see a mini-series called "The Camp", a docudrama about the WW2 internment camps for Americans of Japanese descent.

As far as movies go, it could offer "non-victim" stories featuring strong and honorable male & female characters.  Just watch any movie on the Lifetime Network and think OPPOSITE.

Then at 2200 when the wife and kids are in bed comes the payoff!  "Lock and Load" - a series about a pair of babes who own a gun store in a U.S. major city.  They go up against the ATF, Russian Mafia and of course, terrorists.  I envision Ashley Judd and Winona Ryder as the gun shop owners, and Anna Kournikova as their arch-nemisis (Russian Mafia Hit-Woman).

At 2300 would be "TEOTWAWKI".  This anthology series would detail life after a big rock from space hits Saudi Arabia.  There would be no recurring characters, & the story would be told from many points of view all over the globe.

As you can see my night job gives me a lot of time to think!  It's a nice distraction to the sorry state of the nation.

For some light humor on the weekends, howabout running "The Red Green Show"?  Gotta have a "fixit" program - "This Old Gun".  Each month will be a series of episodes on restoring an old classic rifle or shotgun.

For light, yet educational entertainment, "Little House on the Prairie" should be shown on Sunday mornings.

You read my mind, though I would play them nightly.

Let's not forget "Late Night with Charleton Heston"!

Lots of good novels to turn into movies, or series, too.  First make movies of L. Neil Smith's Probability Broach and its sequels, then a series based on them.

How about a series for gun collectors: Enfields, Mosin-Nagants, Snyders, Garands, etc. Bring in an expert per show, and have him show some of his collection, discuss the details of model identification, other kinks and tricks.

Oh, and can't forget the "X-Ring Files".
