Louisiana High Court Throws Out New Orleans Gun
              Lawsuit
              The Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS, La. (AP) - Louisiana's Supreme Court on
Tuesday threw out New Orleans' lawsuit aimed at forcing gun
manufacturers to pay the costs of gun violence.

In a 5-2 decision, the court upheld a state law passed to
retroactively block the lawsuit and said the city had no right to sue
              anyway.

New Orleans was the first local government in the nation to accuse
gun makers of selling unsafe products and creating a public
              nuisance.

After Mayor Marc Morial went to court in 1998, more than 30 cities
and counties around the country filed similar complaints. Then
dozens of states followed the Louisiana Legislature's lead and
              passed laws against such lawsuits.

In Louisiana, a lower-court judge had found the law
              unconstitutional.

But the state's high court said the state and U.S. constitutions
protect private citizens - not local governments - from retroactive
laws. It also agreed with gun makers that the New Orleans lawsuit
intruded on the state's power to regulate firearms.

Now if only the gun companies can get the City of New Orleans to pay their legal fees.

What happened here that took the steam out of our honorable mayors lawsuit was that it was discovered that he was behind a scheme where confiscated weapons were being sold back to Glock in trade for new Glock Police service pistols. Glock in turn sold these confiscated guns to dealers all over the USA, who then sold to indivduals and once again these firearms were turning up in different cities, having been used in violent crimes.

Bottom line: The city of New Orleans itself was in the business of selling guns and had the nerve to lay all blame on gun makers. It was just an attempt by the greedy polititions in New Orleans to make some easy cash but didn't fly.

This is good news for Michigan as well.  The exact same situation has played out here.  Last week the anti-gunners found a local judge to agree with them.  Now it's just a matter of time before it's appealed and thrown out of court like every other lawsuit.  This case will help set a precidence.

Anti-Gun laws and anti-gun law suits never get thrown out, they get recycled.

We may have won a law suit here with gun manufactures. but what was the cost for them in legal fees and all that good stuff. How long before they decide to sue ammo companies.
