This is the same material from the thread "Some SCOTUS rulings, but I just wanted to take a poll to see how many would over turn these rulings if they had the power to do so.

1) `A verbal prayer offered in a school is unconstitutional, even if that prayer is both voluntary and denominationally neutral.' (Engel v. Vitale, 1962, Abington v. Schempp, 1963, Commissioner of Education v. School Committee of Leyden, 1971.)

2)`Freedoms of speech and press are guaranteed to students and teachers unless the topic is religious, at which time such speech becomes unconstitutional.' (Stein v. Oshinsky, 1965, Collins v. Chandler Unified School District, 1981, Bishop v. Aronov, 1991, Duran v. Nitsche, 1991.)

3) `It is unconstitutional for students to see the Ten Commandments since they might read, meditate upon, respect, or obey them.' (Stone v. Graham, 1980, Ring v. Grand Forks Public School District, 1980, Lanner v. Wimmer, 1981.)

4) `If a student prays over his lunch, it is unconstitutional for him to pray aloud.' (Reed v. Van Hoven, 1965.)

5) `The Ten Commandments, despite the fact that they are the basis of civil law and are depicted in engraved stone in the United States Supreme Court, may not be displayed at a public courthouse.' (Harvey v. Cobb County. 1993.)

6) `When a student addresses an assembly of his peers, he effectively becomes a government representative; it is therefore unconstitutional for that student to engage in prayer.' (Harris v. Joint School District, 1994.)

Nothing says I have to do it. Now if there was a law requiring me to do it, I'd have serious problem and same goes for a law "requiring" someone to pray to the Christian God.

The point here is not to require a religious belief, but to provide freedom of religous belief.

Kill them all.  The rulings.
Pretty much all court cases like these are to resolve a difference in principle.  The courts are being asked to figure out which principle, and whose rights, take precedent.
They ARE in a lose/lose situation, the courts are.
We give the courts shit for cases, and then complain when we get shit sandwiches instead of steak.

You'd fit right in out here in the south east. Except you probably wouldn't like the jelly fish on the GA beaches. [:D]

The ten commandment one is pretty dumb, but I don't like school prayer. I think it smells of an attempt to indoctronate the other students into whatever the most prevalent local religion is. Y'know I never see a kid stand up by himself and pray out loud before a movie starts, or anywhere else in public for that matter, so why the insistence on doing this in school when it isn't done elsewhere?

If you are the jewish kid in that school you're going to pay a price for not going along with the rest of the herd every morning.

Why?
