4 weeks ago I shipped a package by Priority mail from VA. to PA. It went to Baton Rouge LA and bounced around there for a few days before going back north and being delived over a week later.

2 weeks ago I sent a package by priority mail to CA. it bounced arouind Wichita KS for a few days and took a 1 1/2 weeks.

Last week I sent a package by priority  to someone here in the same state. It went to Sanston VA , then Kinston NC, then Fayetteville NC and still hasn't been delivered.

All the packages had printed labels from the USPS site.

I was sent a package last week, the expected delivery date was the 3rd. It is still listed at the sorted facility in the shippers state.

Just bad luck or is this the new USPS?

last year I ordered an item from a CT based company that is no more then an hour away from me.

It went through New York and New Jersey before returning to CT and finding its way to my door step 5 days after it was shipped.

No wonder they are going bankrupt.

I just had a Priority Mail package that was shipped on a Monday in Maine take a week to get to Virginia.

I personally have no use for the USPS.

The Post Office is one of the few functions of government which the Federal government is charged with performing by the Constitution. Since the government is so busy doing things which it was not empowered to do, it has neglected it's few enumerated duties. Years ago it abandoned the Post Office (that's why it's now called the US Postal Service) while leaving the new entity with a unionized labor force.

They have really cut back in the last year.

My local post office is really more of a downsized service desk for a central hub now.  When I do things like turn my mail off for travel these days, it's all held at the hub and I have to go there to get it.

I don't know, but my mail sometimes comes as late as 8pm. I get all sorts of mail that is not addressed to me and just the other day my Jan/Feb Playboy issue came with the plastic cover opened.

i havent had any issues? most of the coast to coast stuff i buy takes 3 days?  it also really depends on your closest airport and mail hub..  if i mail something in my town to someone in the next town over. it has to go 30miles north to the hub sorting facility then back down to the local post office. they are thinking about closing the hub and moving everything to a larger hub 60 miles away.... NOT COOL.

My wife sent me a box of goodies on 1NOV because I wasen't going to be home for Christmas (stuck in a shitty Arab country). It sat in New Jersey for 3 weeks then vanished. My wife finally got it back 2 weeks ago. No explanation as to why it was bounced back, the package looked like it had been run over with a truck.

complain to your local postmaster, include tracking info for your outbound mail that got fucked up. don't mention shitty incoming service.

it sounds like you have a shitty clerk working who probably dropped your shit into a bag going to the wrong place, or put the wrong D&R tag on it. if its happening that often for you its probably happening to other people too. complaints do get looked at and if anomalies start showing up a lot they will figure out what asshat is messing things up and can them.

as far as your incoming package thats listed as still at the sorting site, if it was sent priority, and is going across country, there is a great chance it was then given to a THS that is run by a contract company, who would then put it in a container, that will be flown by FedEx to their location for sorting re routing and then to another THS to be sorted and sent to the local post office. tracking at USPS is all run off of a program called Surface Visibility, when FedEx or a contract company moves the mail they don't always Use Surface viz, they may be using different software to build and break shipping containers, its how they get paid. this means your package doesn't get scanned, and tracking doesn't get updated, and odds are it cant. 97% of mail I get through work is in a large bag containing other mail going to a common location, that bag has a tag on it that is scanned not the individual mail

the whole system is fairly complex and the above was more so my hypothesis on how this portion of the system works, I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure its fairly accurate. I have handled some of my own mail at work, and when looking at the tracking info, compared it to the routing, and it all lines up with my theory perfectly.

any way ya complain and see what can get done, there may be an investigation already going on over that location for having shit go missing. in the mean time send your stuff through another major local post office

You sore-backs must be holding your mouth wrong.

I shipped several packages the first week of Dec by USPS Priority Mail and all got to their destinations on time.

The fartherest one was in Kansas and the closest was in PA.

That said I try and not ship around the holidays as that is just asking for trouble from any carrier.

first week of Dec wasn't peak for USPS, our matrix didn't increase until around the 13th, all hell broke loose on the 20th, and everything was back to normal by the 27th.

I mailed a bill from Kansas City to Los Angeles and it failed to make it there in six days.
I know that isn't a HUGE surprise, but I still think that is quite ridiculous.

So the window of time to avoid a late-payment fee is narrowing because the USPS is increasingly
inefficient and inept.

All the packages had printed labels from the USPS site.

Maybe that's the issue?

When I need to ship stuff I bring it in to be handled.  Back in NY state I would go to the USPS cos it was less than a mile away.  Here in KY I go to the UPS store since it's closer than the USPS.  (and they do both USPS & UPS... in fact they always tell me which way is cheaper).

Most of my stuff gets where it's suppose to go within 2-3 days... well save for the Christmas package I sent home, that took a couple of days longer but it's to be expected.

I sent a package that was supposed to arrive within 6-10 days, as it always has in the past.  It took 25 days.

During this time, a guy sent me some Winchester trigger nut wrenches to do a trigger job on my Pre-'64 Model 70.

I received one of those transparent USPS envelopes with is shredded letter, and some other poor sucker's mail "inside" of it, which was a set of Skullcandy earphones with a warranty slip printed out.  No Winchester wrenches to be seen, no letter from my buddy.

USPS is a microcosm of everything that is wrong with the Federal Government-no incentives to perform, with constant demands for more taxpayer money.

USPS Priority Insured w/ Delivery Confirmation

Most of the problems are with the recipients, not the USPS.  I shipped two firearms on Dec. 24th.  Both people complained yesterday that their FFL's had not received them yet.   So I go online and check the Delivery Confirmation #'s.  Both were delivered and signed for on Dec. 29th.

I think people believe that USPS does not have a tracking system.  For the most part that is true.  Unless you use Delivery Confirmation.

The company I used to work for decide to lower costs by having us field guys send in reports and forms via USPS priority instead of FedEx.

I mailed a $4200 cash expense report from th ATL airport branch and it NEVER got to the main office. Luckily I always made a photocopy of the reports and receipts before sending or I would have been in heap big trouble.

This was in 1998 so thing haven't just gotten bad, they've been bad for along time.
