Whenever someone mentions "cross draw holster" I immediately dismiss whatever else they have to say about guns.

Am I the only one?

What's wrong with a cross draw holster?

George S. Patton had a cross draw holster for one of his handguns. What now?

Yes, unless they're talking Cowboy Action, I don't even know if that's within the rules, but it's the only place they belong.

They are good when driving.

Vincent Hanna also carried his Colt Officer in a cross draw holster.

It's about the only logical reason I can think of for one.

They can be useful depending on the circumstances. I've seen women for whom it's about the only comfortable and efficient way to concealed carry (the usually recommendations of offset and heavily canted holsters being less than ideal for particular body styles).

Also, depending on gear carried and the nature of the mission it may make sense to have a cross-draw attached to a plate carrier (lots of folks with FAR more experience with firearms than you carry like that).

Frankly, I don't see the appeal in immediately shutting down my brain the moment I hear a buzzword. I'd rather evaluate arguments on individual merit and on a case-by-case basis. Do you frequently dismiss people based on magic words and your own infallible assumptions?

I have always wanted to try one. Remember the1976 handgun matches.

Don Johnson scoffs at you. How does that feel, having a sockless guy in pastel scoff at ya?

John McClane does too.

OK, I stand corrected.

If a fighter pilot wears a cross draw holster on his gear, with all the shit that he has to wear while strapped into an airplane then I will keep listening.

Only if I'm carrying two handguns on my belt and that's only because... well you have to the damned thing somewhere.

Like if you were packing a 357 and a 22 on a hunting trip or something.

Good for people who drive a lot or for cowboy action shooting

When I hunt, I typically wear a cross draw holster. I'm usually carrying a hog leg and the crossdraw facilitates entrance/exit of vehicles, ease of movement in undergrowth, into and out of stands, and it feels very comfortable on the reach and pull. Ruger Redhawk 7.5" .44M and Smith 629 4". Never tried it concealed because it doesn't make much sense to me from that perspective.. I prefer ITWB small of back or right hip. However, please do ignore everything I've said.
