As far as the gunfire, I heard as bad (Or better lol) a few years ago on new years in NE Portland. I was working an overnight and stepped out to have a smoke

and it sounded like the D-Day invasion was being reenacted

My wife and I were in downtown Detroit at a bluegrass concert on the 30th of Dec.

We left early, because I was starting to get that feeling that staying past 11 PM would be dangerous. I don't go into that city unless I have to, and even then I go armed.

EDIT: I am surprised no one tried to overtake the gut buggy. That being a medic unit there are a lot of drugs on board that people would love to get a hold of. Those guys are lucky.

I'm pretty sure that's about ANY large metropolis (Short of the East coast) on a new years night. Back in the 70's when we lived in LA new years wasn't complete

without my brothers and I doing "clip dumps" out of our Dad's M1 and pistols (We shot into the ground) and it always sounded like everyone else was busy doing the

same thing in our neighborhood.

I've driven through Detroit in broad daylight, and I am astounded as to the number of brand spanking new Cadillacs with 30" or larger bling bling dubz in decrepit neighborhoods.
