Was the thing to do when I was a kid in the 80's...thought about this tonight for some reason.

Don't think I've been asked since the early-mid 90's

"Hey man, here's twenty bucks...get me a twelve pack and you can keep the change"

but then, canada's age is 19 and is 20 minutes away
although I have a feeling trunks get popped more often now than they did when my friends were 19 since that was pre-9/11

if some kids asked me I'd look around for the unmarked cop car as it would probably be a sting since there are entries in the police blotter fairly frequently about stores getting popped for selling to minors that the cops send in

Take kids money, go inside and buy them beer. Kids drink and drive, kids A) kill somebody and tell where they got the beer, or B) crash and kill some of them, the survivors tell where they got the beer. Cops pull the video surveilance tapes from the store and parking lot and track you down. Hilarity ensues.

We did this too until I procured a fake ID. When I got old enough I used to buy for my younger brother and cousin back in eighties but now it's most likely a sting by the local cops or ABC agents and if you get caught buying for someone else you lose your license, get fined and face jail time.

I never once got asked for ID from the age of 17 on, so I dunno. Never had to ask anyone to buy stuff for us.

When I was in high school we knew which gas stations in the surrounding areas didn't i.d.

Not that I ever used that knowledge, but I had it.

Back in the 60's we use to order beer from a Pizza Restaurant that delivered. The old Italian who owned it would hire college students to make the deliveries. He made them buy the stuff before they left the store and if they did not make the delivery the college student was stuck with the stuff. We would order a small cheese pizza and a huge amount of beer. The college student would always ask to see our ID and we would tell them no; if you don't want to make the sale and a small tip, then take it back. The scam was kind of a dick thing to do, but it always worked.

You might be onto something there. If it was just weed, it wouldn't matter so much, but when you are getting into morphine or crack (hey penalty is the same for weed, might as well get "the good stuff!" ), there's issues.

It is a well known fact that illegal drugs are much easier for teenagers to acquire than alcohol, and is directly attributable to the increased levels of meth use in middle and rural America.

I don't drink but it was completely legal for kids to buy alcohol until a couple of years ago here. I would have been allowed to buy alcohol by my parents also.

The rule was pushed here by some fuck head anti alcohol movement that takes inspiration from nosey morality pushing soccer moms the USA.

If asked I will buy alcohol no problem for older teenagers (its not illegal to straw purchase) but will explain the downsides of drinking.

Moderation in such things comes from within and a personal choice not to do something.

Back when we were young and dumb [in the 70's] we were standing outside a store asking people to buy beer for us...One guy, looks at us, shows us his badge, and says "I'm a cop dumbass" "aww crap"...."gimme your money"...goes in and brings us out a case of Bud..and tells us not to drive....we didn't.

I get hit up for cigs alot and beer once in awhile. When I was at college the beer distributor had a camera right in your face at the register. It would also record the barcode and your ID info right on the tape. Most people didn't use that one
