Not being a fisherman of that sort, do fishing boats normally travel that far?

Russians were lucky it was the Coast Guard and not the Arg Air Force ! Maybe they will get a fishing license next time......

They fish the world. They even have canning (packaging) mother ships that cruise with some fishing fleets.
