I'm not trying to defend SF,but why would you venture into the Castro district ?
Unless you were trying to satisfy some morbid curiosity,it's like going to the beach and complaining about the sand. But give SF a second chance,go check out the Folsom Street Fair next year..it's a good wholesome family type atmosphere. |

Did you not know what areas to avoid and what areas to visit?
I have tons of fun in San Fran when I have business meetings out there but I hangout in the Italian district. I was just there this summer and we tore that town up. My first night out I walk in the bar and order a beer and the cute bartender asks me if I am from out of town and I replied yes. Then the next thing she asked me was if I was straight? I laughed and said yes I am straight. Then she asked if I was taken? I said yes, happily married. She said damn, all the straight guys are spoken for already. I had a few beers and we visited for awhile, it seems she has a hard time getting dates. I told her to move cause in any other town she would not have a problem. She was nice looking. |

I was there for a few days once out drinking and sight seeing, didn't seem as horrific as GD usually makes it seem, course I may not have sought out the nastiest parts of town.

My Great-Great-Grandfather, who immigrated from Germany, was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in San Francisco during the 1860's and my parents were there (and made me) during the summer of 1967. For the record, they thought the hippies were disgusting......they were and are conservative Okies.

I worked for the City and County of San Francisco for a year.
The only thing I dislike about the city, is the fact that it's a big city. It's kind of universal. San Francisco does have it's own brand of weird, but you're doing yourself a disservice by reacting the way you did. The better way to experience the city, is to pretend you're an anthropologist. Look at the city, as if you were a researcher, studying the culture and customs of a far away land. It makes it more fun, and you'll learn to lighten up a bit. And even as I generally hate being in cities as a rule (I'd rather be in the woods), you're broken somehow, if you can't manage to have a good time in San Francisco. |

Sf is a great place to visit. Yeah there are tons of crazy people but I've never had a problem finding something to do there.
You just can't get all bent out of shape that people don't look/act the way people like you do. The city really is beautiful and worth seeing. |

Ya,the Castro district is really expensive,and unfortunately is home to some really good eateries.I am pretty tolerant to "alternative lifestyles",but even the Castro District is too much to stomach,most likely due to a lot of gays doing gay stuff out in the open for nothing but shock value.It's like they figure if people are going to venture into the Castro to see gays,they are going to give them a show.
Diamond Heights is where most of "them" live.
I used to go to the Tenderloin area a lot,to practice studios located on Turk St...never had any problems there..Now Bayview/Hunters Point is a different story. |
