What else should I mix into the meat before forming patties and dropping them over the coals?

A1 and Garlic/Garlic salt.

I try to limit the amount of mashing and mixing I do because it ruins the proper crumbly texture of the burger and turns it into a rubbery sponge.

So I just ball it up once and pat a "dry rub" of several secret herbs and spices over the outside.  One of my secret herbs is a little bit of crushed red pepper.

Why do people say hamburger meat? Is there hamburger that isn't meat?

Do you also say steak meat?

I've always found this odd.

Powdered Ranch dressing mix. One egg and 1/2 cup of italian bread crumbs and mix it all together with COLD hamburger meat.

Use the onion soup mix for your baked potatoes.

Good luck with the onion soup mix.  That stuff always gives me SRB Ass - one ignited it can't be turned off until the fuel is spent.

It is to distinguish ground beef from the entire hamburger entity which consists of patty, bun, and various additions like pickles, lettuce, onion, ketchup, mustard and the like.

like bullet vs ammo, except in reverse!
