You don't HAVE to own a gun. There are several reasons why listed in the law.

Conscientious objectors were added after the ACLU challenged the law.

I remember when they passed that law. They were having several break ins of homes at night while the owners were in bed asleep. After the law was passed, amazingly the break ins drastically were reduced!

I remeber that also.
I hang out on the trib board alot, and one of the local leftists on there is clammoring about how all the gun owners in Illinois should move to one town, and leave us here.
Even called it "gun smoke".
I said fine, and posted some info on that town.
