Not necessarily your favorite song at the time, but the one that comes back to mind the most often now.  I'm 30, mine is Collective Soul's December, 1995, I end up whistling it all the time:

Youtube

GNR, Sweet Child O' Mine, 1987, is a close second.  It was all over the radio throughout my teen years (as is Right and Good), I remember the entire school bus singing along to "she's got eyes of the bluest skies" and wild air guitar solos honoring Slash, both randomly and whenever the radio station played the song:

I remember my senior year, going to some party out in the country, we pull up and there's a bulldozer pile - it was bigger than a house - that had been set on fire, kids were dancing in the firelight to 'smells like teen spirit'.

Almost 20 years later, and that's still stuck in my head.

Neil Young's "Heart of Gold"

In 1970 I was 10 yrs old and that summer there was a garage band in the neighborhood that played that song a lot. And then they stopped. Rumor was one of the guys went off to Vietnam. But everytime I hear this song it takes me back to those simple days riding my bicycle all over town, stopping by that garage when the music filled the air, and wondering if that rumor was true and what became of that young man.

This song reminds me of being a young kid at the lake. There was a big canopy/covered area that had a big jukebox and invariably someone would put this song on. We spent a lot of summers there at the lake and every time I hear this song I can still remember all the good times.

Holy cow! I haven't thought of that song in forever! She came to our little county fair back when this song was just gaining in popularity. Thought she was rather cute too.

Remember this like yesterday. It was an old song at the time (I think), but I remember it on the cassette deck of the Taurus during the many trips with my parents from Buffalo to Myrtle Beach. So many songs I learned to love and to associate with the beautiful smell of dew and tobacco in the early mornings of North Carolina on the way down. Miss those times....
