I'm soaking wet, and here's why. I was just driving on the main drag near here, when I saw something in the middle of the road. It's pouring rain and I can barely see, but I make out that it's an American Flag. There's no place to pull over for about a quarter mile until I see a gas station. Pull over, jump out, run back. Dodged a couple of cars and picked it up. It's one of those that fits over your radio antenna, must have blown off in the storm we're having.

I don't know what it was, but it just hit me that my Dad taught me before I was even in school, NEVER let the American Flag touch the ground.

Got back to the gas station and offered it to some guy pumping his gas. He looked at me like I had two heads, and just said no. F'ing people.

Well done, i would have done the same thing.

Good on ya, Malpaso... I've picked up three of the things now, since last September, all of them on the road or on the shoulder, where people forget they have them in their windows, and roll the damned things down at highway speeds. It's good of you to do, but be careful doing it. ('course, that having been said, I'm sure you and I both will continue to police up Old Glory, putting our health in peril doing so.)
