The Isralis are threating the families og the gunmen.  Nice.  Also, contrary to what many here have stated, the priests are not hostages, in fact, they were EXPECTING the gunmen!

Sounds like another ruse to purge the west bank of all non-islamic religions. Wanna bet that the church mysteriously catches fire and burns to the ground? The Palistinians will blame the Israelis and Israelis the Palestinians. Either way, the Christians will be driven out. Instead of dismantling those LGM-118s like Bush wants to do, we ought to test drive them over there.

Gene: "All is fair in love and WAR brotha!"

Ummm, Al Qaeda is at war w/ us.  Was the WTC & Pentagon attack "fair?"  No.  That's a BULLSHIT argument.

War has its conventions too.  One of the things that differentiates nation-states from terrorists is their adherence to law & convention - even in war.  Threatening to kill or imprison innocents b/c of the actions of other is not "fair."  Israel is reducing itself to acting just like the gunmen.

It has lost any moral high ground it once stood on.  Bulldozing buildings onto people too old or sick to move b/c of sniper fire is sick.  Where was the vaunted IDF then?  Is this what they are reduced to?  All the $ we give them & all the weaponry reduced down to a Caterpillar leveling homes.  Nice.

Well I get the feeling that if US soldiers were getting sniper fire they would call in artillery, helicopter, or tank fire to start knocking down places where the sniper could be.

Bulldozers aren't pretty but, they usaully don't miss their intended target, and they probably give enough warning so everyone who is inclined to get out of the structure to be bulldozed can.

If a particular house or building is used to house "snipers" more than once how would you deal with it. My guess is that part of the house has been reinforeced and there may be weapon "ports" built into the house to make the "sniper" more difficult to find.

Calculating bastards, those Palestinians.

I say the Israelis should raze the mosque in Bethlehem, you know the one the Palestinians did not flee into, to the ground.

It's the least they should get for their troubles!

We might not think it's fair,  but if it is a war (and it sure is now) then "All is fair in love and war."

Well now that Israel has lost all credibility with you and there is clearly no way to earn it back, they may as well use this auspicious occasion to take out their trash.

We only pay Israel $5 Billion per year.

Of course we could use a couple of those dollars ourselves rebuilding our military post Clinton.

As you correctly state there is no longer moral high ground to be occupied.

How about desecrating churches?

In Gaza City:

I thought Bush's budget proposal was sufficient to give the Pentagon everything its heart desired!

They need or want more? I haven't heard them say that.
As you correctly state there is no longer moral high ground to be occupied.

Nonsense, m'boys, the United States and Israel both occupy the moral high ground.

Tell me something that Israel has done that the United States hasn't done in spades...

anything....?????

Then, it's because the US and Israel occupy the moral high ground. Period.

Where did you see that. The article doesn't say anything about families being threatened.

Nice.  Also, contrary to what many here have stated, the priests are not hostages, in fact, they were EXPECTING the gunmen!

Yeah right. You will notice that in the article it says in one sentence that the Israeli's claim the priests can't speak for themselves because they are inside with armed Palestinians. Then on the next line MSNBC (Liberal Scum) says that the israeli's are lying becuase thePriests inside have said they are free to say what they want.

Yeah, ask a hostage if he is being treated well and can speak freely and he will always say yes. US Soldiers in Vietnam calimed they were treated well, and could speak freely when Jane Fonda was "talking" to them on camera. Yet, when they got home they all retracted those statements because they were made under duress.

I am the only one who sees something wrong with this statement:

Israeli military officials have described the clerics as hostages unable to speak ill of their captors, but those contacted by telephone inside the church strongly disputed that characterization.

Sorta like:

The cops called the guy a criminal, but when contacted by phone he (the criminal) strongly denied that characterization

Some of the clergy members are wary about the presence of gunmen in the church. The five Armenian monks and priests have isolated themselves in their monastery and have sealed the door that connects their quarters to the basilica, where most of the Palestinians remain. The Armenians have accepted some small food deliveries from the Israelis, but said they are reluctant to share it with the Palestinians; the supplies are slim.

"We are treating them as guests, although you might call them unwanted guests,” said Bishop Aris Shirvanian, director of external affairs for the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem. “So far they have been respectful to all, but you can imagine what might happen when they reach the point of starvation and desperately look for food or water. They may become violent inside the compound. This is a serious concern."

I think these monks, who BTW have managed to escape the Paliscum disagree with you.

Although Palestinian leaders said the gunmen were running out of water days ago, priests said a sizable reservoir remained. In recent days, the Israeli army has also delivered bottled water — fortified with 40 minerals and vitamins — to some of the clergy, church leaders said.

The IDF is giving them stuff to surive. So, it isn't like they don't care.

Perhaps the most pressing shortage is a lack of cigarettes. Father Parthenius said almost all the Palestinians are smokers and are growing increasingly irritable from nicotine withdrawal. Some have resorted to smoking oregano and other spices. “They’re having to go cold turkey, and it bothers them a lot,” he said.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to be stuck in there with Armed Wackjobs going into withdrawl. They'll (The Paliscum) probably shoot up the place before this is over.
