Nope. I just use a heavy duty case and pay attention to where I leave it.
$12 for Att insurance on the iPhone then your deductible. I'd be better off the opening a new contract

No, I had cell phone insurance for 10 years before I needed it and the insurer was not 'johnny on the spot' with the replacement phone.

I spent $60 a year for 10 years for insurance for a total of $600.

I could buy 3 smartphones in what I paid for insurance and have been better served overall.

nope. I had the ball go bad in my BB curve and took it to a local cell phone repair place and it was gtg for $50. That didnt happen until nearly a year after I got it so I was money ahead.

Id get a otterbox(what I have on my BB tour) with screen protector. It saves alot of wear and tear on the phone

Yes - and with my wife and son in school, it is worthwhile given the high cost of phones like the DroidX.

I had it while I was bound to a contract. As soon as the contract was up and T-mobile put me on a month to month I canceled it as the phone was "paid for".

If I recall mine was about $100, which at the time I canceled the insurance I could have bought a replacement phone of equal or greater technology for about the same.

Verizon deductible is $89. Monthly fee for the insurance is $7.99 for an "advanced device".

I guess one compromise could be to keep insurance until your device is outdated. At that point, the cost of a new phone may come close to or match the cost of deductible plus monthly insurance costs over time.

Only question there is, how easy is it to find outdated phones available?

I bought a 2 year plan for my Droid that was $189 with a $50 deductible, covers loss or damage. Since I bought the Droid the month it came out, I figured that it wouldn't be that inexpensive to replace in 2 years, and my plan is 2 years, so I may as well buy it, I have a history of being hard on phones.

I had a blackberry curve for 18 months and was glad for the insurance I had on it, I had to get a new roller every month, and 8 times had to get the whole phone replaced. Never anything out of pocket, insurance always covered it. I work construction so I'm rough on my smartphones

What is the warranty on most phones? American Express will double the warranty for up to a year for most items. I assume that phones would be one of those items.

As long as you use the same shaped phone for life.

I was going to get an Otterbox Defender for my Droid X when it came out, but I'm now seriously considering the Seidio Innocase. Two reasons... One, they finished development first. Two, I kind of like the fact that the rugged part is easily removable if I would want to remove it for some reason.

Yes. Why? Because I have a tendency to break phones. The last phone I had before my Incredible, I went through 3 of them. So yea, insurance all the way.

No, I don't buy expensive cell phones. Whatever comes free with the plan. If mine breaks, I have 2-3 older ones in a box here somewhere. I'll switch my sim.

Believe it or not I'm a guy who works on 3G/4G networks almost daily and I always carry a cheap outdated cell phone. If I want to surf the web, I'll go home and use my computer with a screen I can actually see and a keyboard I can actually type with.

Yep, I have the Evo. No way would I want to pay the out of pocket cost if it is stolen or destroyed.

Nope. I take care of my stuff.

For Sprint IIRC the insurance is $7 a month and then you still got to pay the $50 deductible, I've gone longer than 2 years with my phone, if I had an accident at the end of 2 years I would have ended up paying out $218 for a replacement over that time. I could probably buy a used older smartphone for less than that on ebay. However if my phone did crap out I would just replace it with one of my older used phones and just deal with poorer web browsing till atleast I got the 1 year credit towards a newer phone.

BTW if you care about your phone buy a lanyard and put it around your wrist when you carry you phone. I put one on all my phones and it has kept my phone from hitting the ground several times over the years, also its handy for pulling your phone out of your pocket or holster.

I don't have the insurance, but then I've never lost or broken a phone. I'm sure I'm just lucky, but I just keep getting free phones when it comes time to upgrade. My daughter, on the other hand, went through them like crazy for a while there, as she would put her phone on the roof of her vehicle when strapping the grandprincess in, then jump in and drive off. The COL is another one who has a hard time with a cell phone. For me, insurance would have been a waste of money. For some people, it's almost a necessity.
