Soooo i fell 3 weeks ago on the outside of my right knee. It swelled up about the size of a cantalope before i went to the doctor two days later. They put me in a knee imoblizer an on crutches for a week and told me to follow up with a orthapedic specialist the following mon. I stayed on the crutches and in the imobilizer until that fri and started to walk on it again. So last mon I went to the orthepedic and was told i needed a MRI so i walked on it with no crutches for another week and had a MRI on it last friday and they called today to tell me that the top of my tibia is fractured and I am out of comission and on crutches for a month. So heres my question, Im 6'6" and crutches are a royal bitch to use, if i use my crutches about 50% of the time am i setting myself back any major recovery time or should i use the crutches 100% of the time??

Use the crutches 100% of the time until told otherwise.

You risk the bone healing out of alignment which would require re-breaking and possibly external fixation for repair.  A long and painful alternative to using crutches as instructed.

Use the crutches the way you were instructed.  We don't tell you to do this just to see if you can or will.
I had a patient a while back who had an ankle sprain.  I told his mother to put ice on it.  She asked me if I was sure since her aunt told her to put heat on it.  I told her I had asked my aunt just the other day and she said to put ice on it.
Since you can't fix stupid, don't be stupid!

Get as pair of forearm crutches, they work much better.

There is a reason the permanently disabled use them.

I hate crutches. I'd rather hop around on one foot or just lay in the floor not moving until I get better.
