Lance criminals doing gang signs it as common 3 year lance Corporals having medium fade haircuts instead of high and tight, they make their own E1-E3 "gangs" as type of joke all the time.

Someone told me they had a Drill Corporal in the 70s.  I think it was my platoon sergeant back in the early 90s.  We had a couple of two stripes in my platoon, E4s who'd been to PNCOC or whatever the hell it's called now; mostly senior NCO pets.  I've never seen guys go from "sorta cool" to "absolute prick" so fast in my life.

Some MOSes (recently Infantry) have such high cutting scores that there are a lot of "terminal" Lance Corporals.

Up and out is a stupid policy that pushes good Marines out. Back in the old Corps you could be a Lance Corporal for 20 years. If a man wants to hump a SAW for 20 years so be it if he is a good Marine. Not everyone should or can be an NCO. I advocate expanding the pay tables for non NCOs which I believe top out at the 6 year mark.

I distinctly remember we had an excellent commo guy that was a Sgt. Who couldn't make Staff Sergeant for what ever reason. He desperately wanted to stay in the Corps. He cried at his finial formation.

I agree with this sentiment.  There is nothing wrong with a career Non NCO postion.  It would be exceptionally benifical for the technical MOS fields.    I know of a lot of guys who had no business being troop leaders but were exceptional Mechs and Techs.

The army used to have a rank structure based on Specialists all the way up through E9 to deal with this situation.

If you went from Spc to Cpl. someone hates you. The ultimate BOHICA promotion if there ever was one.

What are you gonna do when your E-5 points go from 450 to 899 in the space of a few months when the commies' mommies say they had to go home and stop playing?

Btw, courtesy patrol duty at the movie theater or enlisted club was far preferable to motor pool guard duty, and shoulder board rank is a lot easier to maintain than brass rank. Also got a single barracks room, but I was effectively living off post at my German future wife's place.
